I can help you overcome any difficulties you are having with math up to and including trigonometry. With over 15 years of tutoring experience, I have successfully tutored many students with various aptitudes and personalities. These students have ranged from elementary grades through high school. I have even helped a college student pass her Praxis test for teacher certification after having failed it 10 times and another individual make it into the military. One of my students was so excited by what we worked on together (cross multiplication) that she had her mother stop the car alongside of the road on the way home so that she could show her mom what she had learned. I have a passion for helping students achieve their full potential. Having a student change from dreading math to really enjoying it brings me great satisfaction.
An essential element to my tutoring approach is to break a problem down into its basic elements. Many times understanding can be most easily reached by doing a problem with simpler numbers. And, it is always essential to find out where your mastery of concepts stops and build from there to the concept under consideration. My outstanding mastery of math will be used to help you reach a fundamental understanding of the concepts. For example, a per cent is just a number multiplied by a 100 to make it easier to think and talk about numbers that are usually less than 1. I will teach you how to "frame" up a problem so that you will start with the form that the solution(s) will take,
In high school, I was an Explorer Scout, a member of the National Honor Society, and was valedictorian of my graduating class. In college, I was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and graduated magna cum laude from Franklin and Marshall College with a degree in Physics and a minor in Chemistry. I have worked as a research scientist during a nearly 46 year career during which I received over 15 patents. I know how math is used to solve real world problems. I can talk about the usefulness of math. I thoroughly enjoy mathematics and the logical thinking that it requires.
I do regular biking and have completed a 190 mile two day bike hike. I like to play a variety of recreational sports such as softball, tennis, and table tennis. I have coached youth baseball and my favorite baseball team is the New York Yankees. I read whenever I get the time. Scientific American is a favorite magazine and I like books about people. I am a semi-Civil War buff.
There will be no question that you will ask that I cannot answer. Practice problems will be used until there is complete mastery of a concept. I would love to help you become very good at math. Contact me to discuss how we can get this going.
