Davidson College (English)
I am drawn to tutoring primarily because of my passion for learning. I believe that a good education is one of the most important building blocks for success.
My tutoring experience includes working with high school students to prepare for the SAT as well as helping students of all ages develop their reading and writing skills. As of late, my primary focus has been SAT students. I find it greatly rewarding to see my students' scores rise, and I enjoy the opportunity to work one-on-one with students to meet their particular needs.
I am well-versed in the concepts covered by the SAT. While my academic background is in English, I am also fully qualified to work with students on SAT math. As I know many students find math more difficult than reading, a majority of my SAT prep session focus extensively on math review. For those who do want more help with reading and writing, I can offer expert instruction on any aspect of the English language.
I would describe my teaching style as flexible. I believe that individual people have different learning styles that work best for them. I think that identifying these strengths and developing lesson plans around them is the key to academic success. I would work with you to determine how you learn best and adapt my style to meet your unique needs. I am very encouraging and eager to offer praise, and I also know how to give constructive criticism that will help you improve.

Christina knows what is important to focus on and uses the time we have to efficiently teach to my daughter's strength and weakness. She connected well with my daughter and made her feel comfortable.
Christina is very professional and super organized. She arrived on time and dived right into the lesson with my daughter; an hour of English and Math in preparation for the SATs and ACT. My daughter enjoyed the lesson and is feeling confident in her understanding and preparedness for the exams after just a couple of sessions. Christina gave a sample test and is preparing a focused session to work on some problem areas she has identified. Would highly recommend Christina to any student looking for a focused and highly structured plan.
Christina was professional and organized.
She came ready to tutor my son for the time period we agreed on. She was on time and she worked hard. My son was happy with her style and looks forward to scoring better on his SAT's with Christina's help.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
