Hi! Being employed as a local Librarian for the past seven years, has broadened my knowledge of working with students of all ages. Although this is a very busy public library, we pay particular attention to students that have difficulty in the basics of reading and writing.
As a Mom to two grown children, I remember how busy life can be. Many frustrated nights were spent at our kitchen table, trying to complete homework assignments. Prior to becoming a librarian, I was a Consultant and promoted reading/writing literacy through the use of Usborne Educational Materials. I was very successful in this endeavor (in the Top 50 Consultants) and I'm excited to share my love of reading.
With an increase in technology and reading techniques, it is so much easier to see reading as a visual art. Once the foundation is laid, students begin to appreciate how much fun reading can be!
When tutoring a student, I enjoy getting to know them first, their likes/dislikes and also their preferred method of learning.
I include parents, if they desire, to be present during tutoring of their child. This enables them to practice the lessons on their own, if they wish. It also provides them with a base knowledge of what their child's level of reading is, as well as understanding of the Lexile score, most appropriate. I tutor all ages, from Kindergarten to adult.
I am available most evenings after 6:30 p.m. and anytime during the day on alternate Thursdays and Saturdays. I am frequently in the Scranton area.
I look forward to sharing some great ideas you can do with your students, no matter what their age!

Again Kyle is is learning so much with krista! He is being challenged as well as having success! I'm very happy with the progress.
Krista was surprised to find the extent of detail my anatomy went into, but that didn't stop her. She adapted well and found me plenty of other resources that would also help me study on top of her tutoring services. She's also very friendly and personable! I recommend her to anyone in need!
From mom: I am so glad we found Krista! I was very concerned that my daughter's last year of college she would get a bad grade and the whole experience would end badly. But with only weeks to go, Krista was able to review the materials and help her to focus on what she would need to study to test well and pass. She was very accommodating and patient. Thank you, Krista! I will be back when my son needs a boost!
I started my first lesson with the tutor, it was great starting and she made a plan how to start writing my research project.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Hi...although I have been an active tutor with WyzAnt for the past two years, I have not formally submitted my qualifications to tutor Photography, even though it is my passion and the one subject that I "live and breathe"! I am the current Vice President of a Camera Club and I am happy to say that I have been awarded the "Photographer of the Year" title for two consecutive years. I currently use a Cannon DSLR and have expanded my knowledge of photography by attending seminars in Philadelphia with "Digital Days", sponsored by Popular Photography magazine. I have also successfully exhibited my work in Wilkes-Barre's annual Juried "Fine Arts Fiesta. " I recently won Second Place in the Fall Members Only Juried Show of the Wyoming Valley Art League and was chosen to exhibit my work at Luzerne County Community College. I would love to add "Photography" to the list of WyzAnt subjects that I am very qualified to tutor! My portfolio is available for review upon request, as well as my current price listings for photos that I have sold. Thank you!
Presentation/Public speaking is certainly a skill utilized in every facet of life and being on both sides of the podium (as a speaker and also as a judge/coach) and has provided me with valuable insight in coaching other public speakers.
Between 2003 and 2009, I have been a judge for the public speaking segment of our local and statewide forensics/debate community.
In this capacity, I judged many competitions, including current events, oratory, narrative speaking, as well as critiquing speeches prepared by our local high school team. Critiques included vocalization, speed and emphasis of delivering the speech, eye contact, conveying the message to the audience and overall presentation. Most of these students were of high school/college age.
I also have personal experience in public speaking, as an independent consultant selling educational materials to teachers/parents. This included presenting the materials to audiences of 50+ people in auditoriums.
In addition to the above, I am also a speaker/lector for our local church, publicly speaking and giving testimonies before large groups of attendees.
