I have worked with students from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, and I believe I can be of help to your child because of my ten years of experience, my background, my initiative, and my enthusiasm in the classroom. I am capable of adapting to a given curriculum, differentiating instruction, and maintaining a schedule that is flexible to change according to student need. With my student-centered attitude, and my emphasis on individual understandings and personal potential, I can revitalize the content given to me within your program’s curriculum.
I have been employed by the French International School of Philadelphia for the past five years, teaching grades six through eight in Language Arts; grade five students in English language support; and serving as a technology support for grades five through eight. Prior to this, I taught ninth grade in the Pleasant Valley School District for five years, working with students in Honors/AP, Higher Learning, and Applied English, including those with IEPs and GIEPs. I have Instructional II Certification in both English and Communications grades 7-12, allowing me to use my own knowledge of media literacy and forensics to help my students. I also have a Master’s Degree in Educational Classroom Technology, and I have continued to learn and adapt to emerging materials in order to better support both the students and faculty.
The French International School provides students with a private, bilingual education, and maintains a policy of full inclusion. I have adapted lessons, materials, and grading requirements according to student need, and will take the time to clarify a concept to ensure it has been understood. All units are accompanied by MLA writing assignments; guided questions; reading comprehension assessments; vocabulary development; and inquiry-based learning opportunities. I am also able to use my experience teaching Freshmen in a public school system to better prepare my students for entering high school. In addition, I have taught at the Summer Institute for the Gifted for the past three years, and have attended professional development workshops on Differentiated Instruction and Multiple Intelligences. By using a variety of methodologies, I am able to assist all types of learners in understanding the material, giving students the tools they need to be successful.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
