Hello - I am Debbie, and I love reading, learning new vocabulary words, spelling and writing. I am a published author and a freelance writer. For nearly 2 decades I have mentored and tutored a diverse group of learners of all ages (kindergarten through adult). I am very passionate about sharing my excitement, enjoyment and skills in reading and writing, (including all related subjects) so that my students will become inspired to achieve and become successful in all areas of learning.
I am very proud of my positive approach style of tutoring and believe that praise for every effort made is essential. My students receive incentives as they progress through their learning objectives. I promise to use several techniques to help you learn; such as games, art, cooking, scavenger hunts, play and much more. We will not be sitting at the table every session just filling in worksheets. Learning will be a fun process and I will be learning along with you as I learn more about you.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I would like to be qualified as an Elementary (K-6th) tutor. Currently, I am earning my BA in Elementary Education - Interdisciplinary Studies. This will be my second undergraduate degree. I have also been a volunteer for 7 years in the Literacy Program which has given me tremendous experience teaching students at various levels in a variety of subjects.
Under the testing categories for WyzAnt I have successfully passed 12 subjects to date. I am planning to take the Elementary Math test and will also be submitting my qualifications to tutor Social Studies as well as individuals with Dyslexia. Several of my tests have proven that I am capable of tutoring beyond the Elementary level.
Should I qualify under the Elementary (K-6th) level I will be able to meet the needs of several children who are currently waiting for an experienced tutor. As a final qualification to this category I would like to add that I have been given clearance via my background check to work with all children, "typical learners" and those with special needs. Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to excelling as a tutor for WyzAnt.
I have tutored students for 7 years in ESL through the local Literacy program. We work on Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writings. I provide a variety of techniques and activities to practice and review speaking, English proficiency (ex. correct pronunciation, vocabulary building, sentence structure and verb conjugation. I continue to study so that my skills will provide the most effective information as students learn the English language and prepare for TOEFL testing.
I attended seminars in college on Effective Study Skills and continue to benefit from what I learned. I have used those save techniques, over the previous 7 years as a volunteer, at the Literacy Program offered at our library. My students have thrived, made progress and successfully achieved their goals based on these valuable study habits.
