I have several years experience tutoring in the Philadelphia region. I have tutored students from ages 5 up through 19 years of age. I currently work full time as a middle school special education teacher in Philadelphia. This job requires a great amount of differentiating instruction to make the content accessible to the student.
I personally love tutoring because it gives the student a chance to truly "get it". As the tutor, it is my responsibility to not just help the student get the right answers, but to think critically about the content.
My grammatical ability has always been a strong suit, which means I am able to effectively model accurate grammar to students. I also wrote my Master's thesis on language.
As a recent graduate of college, all of my lesson plans had to include Common Core standards. My lessons, activities, and objectives aligned with common core standards.
I have a passion to set the bar high with my students, and the primary ages is the most significant time to do this. As an elementary educator, I am familiar with developmental milestones of students in their primary years, as well as age-appropriate activities that best suit their needs.
As a special education teacher, it is my responsibility to teach non-readers how to read. The first step in this process is to teach phonics and the sounds letters make. Then, the next step is to teach how those sounds bend together to make words. This process continues until the student can read fluently and accurately. As the teacher, I use phonics based instruction to accomplish this.
I'm a friendly, outgoing, and skillful teacher. I love working with students who care, because I care about your education and about your life. I'll make sure not to be boring, and I'll make sure to use different teaching techniques so you learn new things really well. I'm excited to partner with you in this journey. Please reach out to me at any time, as I'll be available. I have several years experience tutoring in the Philadelphia region. I have tutored students from ages 5 up through 19 years of age. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
