In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. Instructor has dual degrees in psychology and has been working with non-traditional learners for 11 years including home and educational environments. Instructor will use various tools to help students with ADD/ADHD specifically organizational charts, checklists, and incentive charts to increase motivation with being organized. Instructor also uses "mind-mapping" as a form of organization for material to help the student organize subject material and use a method for learning. Instructor facilitates structure and organization for the learner that is individual to his/her style and works with the family to include this in daily routines.
Instructor provides tutoring in specific areas of psychology such as general psychology, developmental psychology and abnormal psychology. Tutor will help with organizational study methods to organize theory information as well as use of students text and note-taking. Tutor will also provide study materials.
Reading sessions include phonics, decoding words, sentence structure, comprehension and critical thinking. Use of age/grade appropriate material to facilitate skill building as well as multiple choice questions to enhance understanding and thought about the passage.
Basic American Sign Language tutoring provided through three stages First Signs, Playtime Signs and Everyday Signs. Instructor will demonstrate signs with word and hand motions as well as flash cards for the child and parent to utilize while learning. Instructor provides both American Sign Language and signed English. Instructor will work with families and children who are either deaf or hard of hearing as well as families and children who have speech delays and would like to use Sign language as a vehicle for communication. Instructor has been teaching sign language since 2003 to hearing-impaired and children with speech challenges. This is instructor's 2nd language.
