I am currently enrolled to begin work on my Ph.D. in English Literature and Criticism at IUP for the Fall semester. I recently finished my Master's in English at JCU. While I was there I concentrated on 19th Century American Literature. My undergraduate work at CUP was focused on English with a concentration in Multicultural Literature. My studies have allowed me the opportunity to study various genres, cultures, religions, and writing styles. Each piece of literature allows the reader to interpret their own meaning and I have spent a large portion of my schooling applying different interpretations to major and minor works.
When I'm not in classes, I tutor two young girls. We work on their reading, ABC's, and their sentence structure. I also like to spend time discussing their likes, dislikes, and struggles with reading and school in general. They are ages 5 and 7. I love listening to them read me passages from their favorite stories. I feel that their likes outside of their studies allows me to see their true excitement for reading as a passion, rather than a requirement. Since I have a love for reading outside of academia, all I can hope to do is instill the skill set for others to share in my passion. The combination of patience and the right subject matter can sometimes turn a non-reader into a reader!
I have spent over seven years focusing on English Literature in various genres. Not only that, but I have taken core classes in Education. I passed the Praxis I exam in July 2010. I completed 10 hours of observation in Secondary Education and enjoyed English, Literature, Reading, Vocabulary, and Writing through all of my schooling, both younger and older. Aside from academic writing, I also enjoy creative writing.
I'd love to help you with your English needs! I am flexible and have a sense of humor. I want to take the stress out of studying and learning, and who better to help you do that than someone who is also a student! Please feel free to contact me to learn more about scheduling lessons. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a B.A. and M.A. in English Literature. I have spent 7 years majoring in Literature as my core subject of choice.
Aside from a B.A. and M.A. in English, I also have spent approximately 2 years tutoring two young girls in reading. I take the time to encourage them with reading outside of their studies. I try to influence patience while reading academically and leisurely. Sometimes it is important to encourage re-reading and dissection of a passage to gain a better understanding of the material.
