About Angela

I am a certified teacher with over 14 years of teaching experience. After earning a bachelor's degree in Biology and a bachelor's degree in Psychology, I procured my teaching certifications in Elementary Education, Biology and Psychology. I have had a very successful and rewarding career teaching 5th through 8th grade Science, 7th grade Reading, and 5th and 7th grade Religion. I expanded my career objectives by teaching High School Biology. I organized and instructed classes for home school groups in General Science, Biology, Writing and Literature.

It was in teaching one-on-one Supplemental Instruction in Reading, Writing and Math as well as tutoring home bound students in the areas of Reading, Writing, English Literature Math, Biology, Chemistry, Physical Science, and Psychology for several School Districts and County Educational Services Commission that I felt most fulfilled, and experienced great success with my students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a college graduate and have completed a state certified teacher training program and hold a state certification in Elementary Education K-8th. My experience includes over 13 years classroom teaching, tutoring and home instruction. I have also provided long-term supplemental instruction to learning and perceptually impaired students through a county educational services commission. Quality tutoring methods I employ are use of flash cards, diagrams, simple props and experiments, guided reading with comprehension questions using context clues and eliciting cause and effect, and compare and contrast responses as well as defining vocabulary. I even act out or dramatize some stories with students to make it fun. In tutoring Writing, I like to use build-a-sentence method drawing on the parts of speech and asking who, what, when, where and how to help students develop their writing skills and paragraph organization.
