In 1996, I became a Peace Corps volunteer because I wanted to offer my skills and education for the benefit of others who needed help in their young lives. I lived in Razgrad, Bulgaria for two years and watched my students grow both intellectually and personally, as I knew they would. I too grew professionally and personally to the point where I knew I had found my calling in life. Helping others is truly a great reward, and I hope to help my future students as a tutor and classroom teacher.
My background is unique and varied, and I firmly believe that my education and teaching experience has prepared me to help you. For example, I earned a BA in journalism and later worked for several newspapers where I learned to write. I also earned teaching certificates in English and social studies. Finally, I earned my MA in English, and this experience equipped me with the advanced skills necessary to be an outstanding educator. I have been teaching ESL, writing and literature for 20 years at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas until I moved to Pa. last year. Indeed, I hope that my background will help you to decide if I can be of assistance in your desire to improve and to educate yourself.
The most significant qualification I have is the belief that we should always strive to improve ourselves, and I believe my desire to educate and to see the results of hard work in my students and myself is my passion and hope.
Please contact me at your convenience if my profile fits your needs. I am available all day Friday and in the afternoon everyday during the week for individual tutoring and business that want to help their employees improve their English. I will travel up to 25 miles outside of Hershey for lessons. Hope to hear from you, so we can start learning together. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have been teaching ESL for 20 years overseas and in the US. I have worked in Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Estonia, Iraq, my most challenging and saddest assignment, and Azerbaijan. I have also worked with students from over 100 countries at the Defense Language Institute English Language Center (DLIELC) at Lackland, AFB in San Antonio.
