Since undergrad, I have been connected to some form of teaching. I began as part of NYIT's tutoring program for CAD/D, Structures, and Building Construction courses, and then developed into a Teacher Assistant position in the Architectural Design Studio.
Since then, I have been involved in other TA positions at MIT, and then connecting with the Architecture in Education program in Philadelphia with the AIA and Community Design Collaborative.
Over the past 7 years, I've been teaching at a local community college in CAD/D, Architecture, GIS, and graphic design courses (all versions of AutoCAD, Revit, 3D Max Design, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign and Sketchup). While at the college, I've taught two courses at Kid's College - School of Video Game Design and School of Film (iMovie, MovieMaker, and Scratch)
Recently, I've been helping to develop curriculum for a Christian Vocational High School, and I have been working with a teen after-school program in Midtown Harrisburg. With this program, the focus has shifted from technology to more of life skills for teens.
Living in Midtown Harrisburg for 10 years and married for 21 years, I have learned a lot working with students in the neighborhood as well as through contract work with Baltimore City Public Schools. I am always looking for ways to help others become better through knowledge and develop that hunger for learning at all ages in life.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I started using illustration software beginning with Macromedia's Freehand, and then switched to Illustrator in 2000. While working in architecture and planning firms, I picked up more and more skills working between AutoCAD and Adobe products. Over the past three years I've been teaching an architectural graphics course at a community college, which focuses on the Adobe Collection. While my focus is on architectural graphics, I am familiar with Illustrator for graphic design work.
I've been using Adobe InDesign since 2005. It started from a need to market and present projects for the architectural firm where I worked. I used my knowledge in Desktop Publishing, Photoshop, and Illustrator to build the firm's marketing materials. In 2009, I transitioned into teaching and took that knowledge to help architecture students develop portfolios of their work for transfer college review. While the work is focused on the subject of architecture, the class I taught highlighted graphic design principles and setting up small booklets in the software. It also provided a good foundations for using InDesign for any other types of publications.
I've been using Photoshop since I got my first scanner in 1996. While working in architecture and planning firms, I picked up more and more skills working between AutoCAD and Adobe products and having the task of editing scanned drawings and printed photographs. Over the past three years while teaching architecture classes at a community college the focus has been on the use of the products in the Adobe Collection. While my focus is on architectural graphics, I am familiar with Photoshop for use of 3D visualization and rendering as well as for presentation graphics.
I've been teaching college level architecture courses for 4 years. My background is in architecture, and I've worked in the profession for about 12 years. My range of knowledge is from the history of architecture, to urban design, to computers and technology in the profession.
I've been teaching AutoCAD since 2006 (both full and part time) while keeping up with the changes over the years until the current release of 2014. I've been using the software in both the academic and professional worlds, with the latter in the position of developing CAD standards and management practices for architecture and engineering firms. I've also am familiar with other products such as Vectorworks, ArchiCAD, and Microstation.
In 2007 I began to teach the one of the Adult Bible School Classes for the church that my wife and I were attending. Topics ranged from book lessons as well as outright chapter studies from the Bible.
Over the past year, I've been leading a weekly devotions for the Christian Vocational High School where I taught, and currently I help to co-lead a small group table for our churches Marriage Matters class.
Lastly, I've been working as coordinator for an after school teen program which focuses on daily Bible Study, specifically teen related issues.
I have acquired 2 years of experience working in an after school teen program. Curriculum topics include career development for teens, mentoring, homework assistance and the development of life skills - "post graduation plans". Last year, I have also been teaching basic and advanced level computer classes for Adults 18+ so they may better manage technological change in and out of business.
Since 2009, I've been working with architecture students at a community college developing both digital and paper versions of their architectural portfolios. These portfolios are presented when they transfer to other colleges to continue their education for a 5 year degree in architecture. The topics dealt with Photoshop, InDesign, as well as printing and assembly techniques. My interest in publication began in the late 80s when I had my Commodore 128 and GEOS, which I used to publish a youth news section for our church. From there I received a PC and started a family newsletter that I ran for about 4 years.
It is very important for architects to know how to sketch and draw and I've had much instruction during college from many different architects and artists. I pulled this information together in 2007 as I helped to co-teach and develop curriculum for the Architectural Sketching class at a community college. While the focus was on buildings, the fundamentals of teaching students how to see with there eye was key.
I've been working with short films and wedding videos since I purchased my 3CCD camera bake in 2002. I've used it to enter into the Philadelphia 48 Film Project and also work as a primary and secondary shooter for wedding videos. I've used many types of film editing software such as Pinnacle, Vegas, iMovie and Premiere. From 2009, I've taught a kids summer camp called School of Film where I helped 15 students learn about the history of film and develop ideas for a short film over the total 12 hours for 1 week each year.
I have been using computers since my Commodore 64 back in the '80s. From there, I upgraded to a Windows based PC in 1995. I've built my own computer from scratch and continually help both family and friends as well as coworkers and the businesses I have worked at solve computer problems.
In 2008, I purchased my first Mac and became a hybrid working it both the Windows and Apple OSs, while utilizing virtualization through VMFusion. I've also become familiar with iOS with a purchase of the first generation iPad in 2010. Much of this usage has been in education.

I consider myself a hybrid as I've been using a Mac since 2008, running Windows 7 in emulation. It has been a great experience shifting from a Windows world. I've managed to help others complete the transition from Windows to Apple during the past 5 years. It has helped connect into iOS through my iPod and iPad use. Recently I've been helping a school setup IT and network support for a Mac lab and learning all I can through that process and providing insight as needed.
10 years professional experience in Microsoft Office products, using Excel working with budgets, project management, scheduling and tracking. 7 year teaching experience at the college level helping students learn software, including Excel as related to their course of study. 2.5 years mentoring middle and high school students using Google Sheets to teach personal budgeting. 1.5 years teaching adult learners Google Sheets for personal budgeting and cataloging data.
I've been using Windows since I received my first PC in 1995. I am familiar with all aspects of the operating system (XP/Vista/7) and working to pickup experience in Windows 8. I've had about 3 desktop and 4 laptops over the years where I had to provide maintenance for them. I've also been the family/friend "go to guy" for all computer troubles helping to get computers back up and running. This has brought the most experience in helping others get the basics to function well with a computer as a tool.
I've been using Word since 2000 in the professional world, setting up reports with mixed graphics, as well as professional correspondence. In an office I've helped to establish standard document templates for employees to use within a company. I've also had to translate between document types from older word processing programs. Also, I am familiar with both the Mac and PC versions of the software.
During my first year of college I took an adult education class in B&W photography. I was hooked and bought my first SLR in 1996 after upgrading from my grandfathers old Canon A-1. I've used both cameras for architectural photography and became interested in scanning and Photoshop editing. In 2000, I picked up my first point and shoot digital camera and continued to learn to perfect my photos. Since 2010 I've been using a Canon T2i for all kinds of personal and academic projects and helping others better utilize any camera that they may have at their disposal, really taking Chase Jarvis' philosophy of "the best camera is the one that's with you" to heart.
As any college student, I took the Effective Speaking and Communication course in college with fear. Public Speaking wasn't one of my strong suits. It was only later in life that I found how to overcome public speaking and that is simply to practice - to take the opportunity to speak whenever you have the chance. Through teaching at church and now as a community college and vocational teacher, it has become second nature. I hope that I could help anyone needing tutoring in this subject advice on getting up in front of others. It is a huge fear of students, but it isn't hard to make more manageable. I try to help all my students get up and speak to communicate their ideas and present their projects.
I've been teaching Revit since 2010 in the working drawing and renovations and detailing class for a community college. I've been able to help students merge theory that they learn in building construction and materials class, to the digital model of Revit. One really needs to understand how buildings are made before they can jump in using any type of Building Information Modeling (BIM) products. I've been using it in a semi-professional in a course that merges students and non-profits to develop models of existing structures and provide pre-design solutions for the "client".
In college I was a paid tutor for students. With a combined total of 10 years in multiple teaching environments, I have taught students a variety of materials and helped in preparations for note taking and tests. Specifically, I have taught 7+ years of college level courses and 1 year of HS Vocational courses in the areas of architectural technology, 3D modeling, and computer graphics. Recently, I have acquired 2 years of experience working in an after school teen program (Middle & High School Students) involving mentoring, homework help, and the development of life skills. Since 2002, I've been interested in video production. It started with Pinnacle and then to Vegas. I've taught myself the editing process after teaching a "How to Make Movies" course from the Philadelphia University of the Arts. I've taught a School of Film week-long camp course during the summers at a local community college. Here I worked with students to develop a film idea, collect the shots, edit the film, and then burn the DVD for presentation to the class visiting parents/friends.
