About Sarah

I have over five years tutoring experience. After completing 2 years at MIT studying nuclear engineering I am well versed in math and science through the high school AP and introductory college level. I have extensive experience working with students who have ADHD and Autism.

I provide services in three general areas:

Test prep- For students who are taking the PSAT, SAT, ACT, SAT subject tests in Math, chemistry, biology, physics, and literature, or the GRE, I provide a comprehensive overview of the material covered on the exam as well as strategies for increasing scores. Programs are customized to students' individual goals, strengths, and weaknesses.

Academic tutoring - For students who are struggling in math, science or writing, I provide tutoring based on the concepts they are currently studying in school. The primary focus is on helping students deepen their understanding of concepts and improve their grades in school.

General tutoring- For students who struggle academically due to problems with study skills, self evaluation and self advocacy. Lessons focus not only on the academic subjects themselves but also on time management, organizational skills, and knowing when and how to ask for help.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I attended MIT for two years before transferring to Drexel University to study educational psychology. I have over seven years experience tutoring Algebra 1 and have helped students in math classes ranging from pre-algebra to college level calculus.

Algebra 2

I have tutored Algebra 2 for over 7 years. I attended MIT for two years before transferring to Drexel University to study educational psychology. I have helped students in math classes ranging from pre-algebra to college level calculus.

Autism

I am in the process of completing my undergraduate degree in psychology at Drexel university and have previously helped evaluate Drexel's autism support program. I have worked with students who have autism for over 3 years, and have experience in ABA therapy. My tutoring often incorporates aspects of ABA therapy, goal setting and data tracking to help students achieve better study skills, motivation, and self awareness.

Geometry

I attended MIT for two years before transferring to Drexel University to study educational psychology. I have tutored Geometry for over 5 years, helping students from middle school to college.

GRE

I scored in the 95th percentile on both the verbal and math sections of the GRE. I worked for Kaplan Test Prep for 5 years before leaving to pursue private tutoring. In that time, I helped students learn how to ace the SAT, ACT and GRE by understanding how the test is structured and what strategies work best to beat the test. I help students study smarter by focusing on the types of questions they are most likely to see test day, and understanding the way test makers think.

Prealgebra

I have tutored pre-algebra for over 7 years. I attended MIT for two years before transferring to Drexel University to study educational psychology. I have helped students in math classes ranging from pre-algebra to college level calculus.

SAT Math

I scored in the 95th percentile on all 3 sections of the SAT.

SAT Reading

I scored a 740 on the SAT reading section the first time I took the SAT's as a high schooler. During college, I worked for Kaplan Test Prep where I fine tuned my ability to teach students how to approach the SAT reading comprehension section.

Special Needs

I am currently finishing my undergraduate degree at Drexel university where I have helped evaluate Drexel's autism support program and given presentations on the effects of autism on college students. I have been working with special needs students for over 5 years, both privately and with Kaplan test prep, where I have given training seminars on how to tutor students with learning differences.

My tutoring sessions often incorporate aspects of ABA therapy, goal setting and data tracking to improve student's self awareness, self evaluation, and study skills while providing academic support.

A great, patient, and reliable tutor — I am one of many future students going into grad school to continue further education and push for their goals. One of the big hurdles I had to get over was the GRE. Sarah after talking with her and establishing a workable schedule was able to meet. She was understanding, knowledgeable of the material and even made math (which is my weakest study skill) into something manageable and show improveme ...
