Hello! I graduated in 2020 with a 3.37 GPA and a BA in Cognitive Developmental Psychology, with minors in Religion and Neuroscience. My professors in college were amazing, and they showed me with their skill and passion how I learn best, and how to teach. From what Id learned, I picked up a job on campus tutoring, and I found that I had a passion for it.

I tutored in 6 subjects over the course of 3 years through a peer tutoring program at my college, and it was amazing. I loved watching students progress and learning new techniques to help individual students, since everyone I taught seemed to learn best though different routes. I loved having the opportunity to help those students, and now that I've graduated, I have greatly enjoyed continuing that work thorough this platform. I also grew up with nine siblings, eight of whom were younger than me. I helped them with their schoolwork every day, and I miss doing so. For that reason, I would love to work with either adults or children.

My mother is Deaf, and ASL (Sign Language) is my first language. I am fluent in it, and have been my entire life. We used it at home, and I translated for my mother in countless situations.

I also enjoy proofreading papers and helping students to learn the editing process. I also studied Japanese for two years, Biblical Hebrew for two semesters, and I know ASL. I think that knowing these other languages has given me a finer understanding of pronunciation rules, grammar, and nuance in English. When translating from another language to English and vice versa every day, I believe that you strengthen your knowledge of both languages.

My mother is deaf, and I have three deaf siblings, so my first language was ASL (American Sign Language). I interpreted for my mother and siblings often in conversations between them and hearing people, and sign language was used as much as English in our home.

Special Needs

Hard of Hearing,

Hard of Hearing

My mother and three of my siblings are deaf, and I was hard-of-hearing as a child. My hearing loss subsided, but my involvement with the deaf and hard-of-hearing community did not. My best friend in college is deaf, and many of my family friends growing up were deaf or hard-of-hearing. Being hard-of-hearing in elementary school was difficult, and I watched my best friend struggle with it some in college. But I helped her discreetly by signing to her things that the teacher said with her back turned, and tutoring her in areas that she was struggling with. My younger deaf siblings didn't have so many issues, since they were home-schooled, but I taught them primarily with ASL, and I can translate academic information from English to ASL easily.

Study Skills

Sports/Recreation

Sewing,

Sewing

I was taught to sew by an amazing seamstress when I was young and I have been sewing regularly for over 6 years. I have made everything from masks, to dresses, to teddy bears. I know many sewing techniques and while I prefer to sew by hand, I can adeptly use machines as well. I have not thrown our clothes that were ripped in years, preferring to fix or patch them whenever possible, and it's saved me an enormous amount of money.
Yoga

Yoga

I attended weekly yoga sessions for 2 years, and I studied the cultural and religious significance of yoga forms in both Hindu and Buddhist religions. I also studied psychology, in which we were taught the physical and psychological effects of yoga and meditation. I love practicing yoga and I have been taught how to do it safely and conscientiously, with the cultures that yoga came from in mind.

great at what she does

Ms. Theresa is a great teacher, very understanding when it comes to the difficulties of picking up a new language. Especially one that isn’t vocal. All and all great at what she does, highly recommend!

My daughter enjoyed her time

She was very knowledgeable and easy to tutor with. We plan to continue with tutoring and know that my daughter will have a wonderful experience with her. Obviously, she is very experienced.
