About Raymond

Mr. Raymond S. recently retired from his position as the Director of Bands and Music Department Chairperson at the Western Wayne school District. Mr. S. has over 32 years of music teaching experience and is now offering his expertise and experience through private lessons and ensemble experiences.

As a music educator, Mr. S. has taught instrumental music from grades 4-12. He is an understanding, patient and inspirational teacher who is highly respected and loved by his students. He has the ability to get the best out of students by setting student based goals and teaching in a demanding style while remaining supportive and encouraging. During his time as a High School Band Director, Ray has a long tradition of large numbers of students qualifying for District, Region and All-State Band. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

As a High School and Middle School Band Director for 32 years I have played and taught FLUTE and successfully prepared students for auditions, concerts and had several FLUTE students qualify for District, Region and All State Band.
I have a BM and a ME from Marywood University in Scranton PA and an additional 48 credits above my Masters study in Music and Education.

Music History

As a High School and Middle School Band Director for 32 years I have taught MUSIC HISTORY. Most of my Masters work was in the area of music history. I studied music in antiquity, Renaissance, Baroque, Medieval, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century music periods. I am qualified to teach study and analysis of all periods of musical composition. I also have a broad knowledge of world music.
