Brown University (History)
I am a graduate of Brown University, where I primarily studied American and East Asian history. Academics have always been a key source of passion in my life. I love to write. In high school, I tutored my peers in writing three days a week. I also gained experience working with children through my community service efforts at the St. Vincent School in Philadelphia, and at the Kensington Community Center.
I love the energy of kids. Whenever working with young students, I aim to make a positive contribution towards opening up and growing their minds. As a tutor, I strive to bring the same energy to my work that kids bring to life. More than anything, I endeavor to be clear, to be kind, and to listen. Thank you. He was a great teacher, my son really understood his method, and with practice and homework he received a B on his report card. I am grateful to WyzAnt Tutoring and Julian. I would gladly recommended this service to anyone that thinks their child needs that extra edge to change their grade. My son realizes the benefit of tutoring and now is not shy about telling everyone about the change in his grade. He is confident now with doing algebra, and that makes him smile and me too. Julian was awesome, reliable and professional - the best. My son and I are happy campers!!!
Julian provides skilled and caring tutoring, which has been helpful to someone with anxiety about math. Our 4th grade daughter has been positively encouraged and that has helped her confidence when applying herself to her math lessons.
Julian is very patient, positive and supportive. My son looks forward to their lessons and does not complain about the extra work. Julian is prompt and very easy to communicate with thus far. We have had a pleasant experience. I would recommend Julian to anyone considering a learning support person. Great job!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I spent the better part of last year tutoring six children in Algebra I. I have mastered all of the concepts. I can teach students how to enjoy working with math, and all of the practical skills they can improve by learning algebra.
I taught for Kaplan for a year before leaving to attend Columbia Law. I know how to improve students' scores on the test, and I can also convey my insights on how to succeed in the first year of law school.
I have experience teaching numerous students how to excel on the math sections of the SAT. I helped one student raise her overall score by 300 points. I scored over 700 on the math section of the test.
