Greetings! My name is Monica and I would like to take a few minutes to briefly introduce myself. I have been in the education field for over 20 years now and have dedicated my entire life to helping to educate our future leaders of America! Dating back to high school, I attended a 2 year technical program for child care and then moved on to pursuing my career as an educator. After graduation, I attended California University of Pennsylvania for my undergraduate and graduate degrees in Early Childhood, Elementary Education, and Special Education of the Mentally and Physically Handicapped. I then continued on to then pursue my Doctorate degree from Northcentral University, in Curriculum and Teaching.
I have been teaching now in a public school in Miami Florida for the past 10 years, 2005-2015, holding the positions of Gifted Reading and Language Arts Teacher grades K-8 and Primary classroom teachers of 1st - 3rd grade self-contained. Prior to obtaining my position in the Miami Dade Public Schools, I had a position as a Director of a child care center from 2000-2005 in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania and Preschool teacher from 1999-2005. All the while, as well, I have been tutoring students before and after school, privately, providing supplemental education services in all subjects needed, 2005-present. I look forward to continuing my services for all students who many need support with their educational goals. Greetings! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I believe I am qualified to teach Common Core for a few reasons. First, I have been a school teacher for many years now and since the common core has been implemented, I have been teaching to it. Second, I have been a full-time Reading and Language Arts teacher and tutor for over 10 years now. Lastly, I have taken numerous professional development trainings on Common Core over the past few years while teaching in a public school.
I am qualified to teach Elementary Education for many reasons. First, I have numerous college degrees in the education field, including early childhood, elementary, and special education. Second, I have been an Elementary school teacher now for over 10 years in a public school. Third, I have been teaching and tutoring students using school district curriculums and supplemental learning resources for over 20 years now. Lastly, I have completed numerous training sessions and passed many tests on elementary school curriculums, such as the National Teacher Exams, which are required to obtain a teaching certificate in every state.
I am qualified to teach grammar for a few reasons. First, I have been a public school teacher for over 15 years. Second, I specifically have been a Reading and Language Arts teacher for over 10 years. Lastly, I have completed and passed many graduate research courses for my Doctorate degree that have required me to write in a professional manner.
I feel qualified to teach handwriting for a few reasons. First, I am a public school teacher and have taught handwriting on a daily basis for the past 15 years. Second, I pride myself and my students in writing with proper letter formations, spacing between words, and neatness each and every day I teach. Lastly, I follow not only the manuscript alphabet, but also the cursive alphabet when teaching my students the correct ways to write in a perfect fashion.
I am qualified to teach phonics for a few reasons. First, I have been a Reading and Language Arts teacher for over 10 years. Second, I have taken professional development classes that focus on primary and secondary phonics and phonemic awareness skills. Lastly, I have taught Pre-K, K, 1st, and 2nd grades in a public school which requires me to teach phonics on a daily basis.
I am qualified to teach to special needs for many reasons. First, I have a college degree in Special Needs and Mentally and Physically Handicapped. Second, I have taught students with special needs in numerous public and private schools. Third, I have taken and passed numerous college and professional development classes in special education. Fourth, I am trained and endorsed in teaching students of the Gifted population. Lastly, I have had experience with many types of disabilities in students throughout my 20 year teaching career.
I am qualified to teach study skills for a few reasons. First, I have taken and passed numerous professional development courses in which educate me in the knowledge that all students possess different learning styles and need opportunities to learn and study in the most suitable fashion for each as an individual. Second, I feel that throughout my 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience I have obtained the knowledge and experience to be an effective educator. Last, I have a very high student passing rate and I believe it is due to my attentiveness to student needs and differentiated instruction to the curriculum at hand.
