My experience with tutoring has involved tutoring in the evenings for at-risk elementary students in grades 2-5 at an elementary school in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. I also implemented an after-school tutoring program for students in grades 3-10 for two years when I served as the EAP Tutoring Coordinator. I implemented researched based reading programs such as - Quick Reads, Read Naturally, and Vocabulary Acquisition. Also, in my role as a Literacy Coach and Intervention Specialist in my former district I tutored small groups of students and one-on-one with remediation of grade level standards using passages from Read Works. My credentials of receiving a B.A. (1993 from Wilson College) and M. Ed in elementary education (1998 from Shippensburg University) qualified me for classroom teaching, intervention specialist, and literacy coach. My credentials as a principal are due to successfully completing the K-12 Principal Certification at Shippensburg University in 2005.

I worked for 26 years in my former school district prior to retiring this past June in one capacity as an elementary teacher of students in grades 2,4,and 5. My role as an Intervention Specialist included students in grades 6 and 7. The various positions I served in while in the district were Head Teacher, Principal of two K-5 elementary buildings in which I and the teachers pulled both buildings off the State Watch List for reading, Federal Programs Coordinator in which I wrote and maintained and followed up on grants totaling 5+ million dollars, and Literacy Coach. I wrote curriculum at the elementary and middle school level in alignment with the Pennsylvania Common Core Standards.

As a literacy coach and intervention specialist I wrote curriculum with classroom teachers using the common core standards. First, we interpreted the standard and used a scaffolded approach to facilitate learning. Also as an intervention specialist I wrote lesson plans to reinforce the concept being learned in the regular ELA classes.

I am certified to teach elementary K-6. My past experience has primarily been focused on literacy in these grades as well as grade 7 as a classroom reading teacher, intervention specialist, and literacy coach. I implemented an after school tutoring program in 21 buildings in my district for two years with an emphasis in reading.

Handwriting

As an educator I used the Peterson method for writing. For those having difficulty in terms of fine motor skills, I had them use a large black pencil with heavy black lines used on the paper. For LS or dyslexic I had the students use colored pencils with paper with heavy black lines. For those with spacing difficulties I had students use a Popsicle stick between writing words.

Homeschool

It is crucial that home schooling instruction is in alignment with the standards associated to a child's grade level. Also, understanding multiple intelligences and Blooms Taxonomy needs implemented. If a child is stronger in one intelligence than tailor projects that will utilize the strong intelligence to demonstrate an understanding or mastery. Use of higher forms of questioning leads to fostering analytical skills. I haev also received an M.Ed. in Elementary Education.

As a former educator in the intermediate grades where state testing was administered, I taught study skills to my students. It was a 5 day unit on organizing information with graphic organizers, elimination of obvious wrong answers and how to decipher the best possible answer, and how to pull out unnecessary information in a task and recognize needed information. My credentials of receiving a B.A. (1993 from Wilson College) and M.
