About Jessica

Hello everyone!

I am a recent law school graduate and I am excited to share the knowledge and study tips I have learned during my 20 years of school with other students!

Educational Background: I completed my J.D. in May of 2014 at Santa Clara University School of Law and have my undergraduate degree from University of Pittsburgh with a honors major in Politics and Philosophy with a minor in Chemistry.

Work Background: While in school, I had the extraordinary opportunity to work in Chambers at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague, The Netherlands, as well as in various clinics, including the Northern California Innocence Project and the Katherine and George Alexander Community Law Center Immigration Clinic. Since graduating, I have passed the California and Pennsylvania state bar exams.

Since graduating from law school, I have worked for a judge in Erie, Pennsylvania and I now work as a prosecutor. Through these experiences I developed the skills to explain complex and often confusing topics to people who may not be well-versed in the subject. I also have tips for managing time and a busy schedule that I think will be incredibly valuable in tutoring.

Tutoring Background: I have been tutoring off and on for most of my life. During law school, I tutored and mentored my fellow law students as well as LSAT prep to prospective law students. I have been also tutoring school-aged children at the local YMCA in a variety of subjects.

Although I tutor in many subjects, specialize in helping students prepare for important tests, specifically the LSAT and the SAT. I also have helped prepare students for the Bar Exam, specifically the MBE. Outside of test prep, I have helped students improve their grades in college classes and fine-tuned their writing skills. I am also available to proofread and provide feedback on essays.

If you have any questions about my qualifications or would like to meet to see if I would be the right fit to be your tutor, please do not hesitate to contact me.

All the best,

Jessica

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bar Exam

I sat for the July 2014 California Bar Exam and the February 2015 Pennsylvania Bar Exam. I passed each on my first attempt and scored well in excess of the average. Prior to sitting for the California Bar, I took a full review course and the optional course that my law school provided. To prepare for the Pennsylvania Bar, I completed another full review course. Given my recent and extensive exposure to the material and the test taking process, I would be an excellent resource to someone looking to take the bar exam in the near future.

Criminal Justice

I am a current lawyer and recently graduated from law school where I excelled in criminal law classes. I also currently work in the criminal justice system which gives me a unique insight into the real life workings of the subject. While in law school I helped many of my fellow students understand criminal law topics. My ability to break down the requirements as well as explain the underlying purpose of criminal justice rules make me an excellent tutor in the subject.

Logic

I took every logic based class my university had to offer and excelled in each. My philosophy degree focused on logic. During my classes, I tutored other students on the subject. Additionally, I am currently a lawyer and therefore utilize logic in every aspect of my job. I find that have a knack for breaking down logic problems and explaining them to students so that they can understand how to solve similar problems on their own.

Political Science

I am qualified to tutor in political science because I majored in political science in college. I took honors political science classes and did very well in all of them. I also completed my international law certificate with honors while in law school which deals greatly with political science. While in college and law school, I tutored students in lower level political science classes. I also helped explain concepts to my fellow students in my political science classes. As such, I believe I would be an excellent tutor in political science.
