Hello. Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Kevin and I am currently a 4th grade teacher in a public elementary school. I have over 30 years of teaching experience and have had the opportunity to teach in a variety of educational settings. I have taught in self-contained, departmental, and in an open classroom situations. I have taught grades K-8 throughout my career.
My educational background includes two masters degrees in elementary education with a concentration in mathematics (K-8) and a masters in reading. I also have certifications in elementary education, special education and reading specialist certification. Presently, I am pursuing my doctorate in literacy and reading through the online program at Capella University. My hope is to have completed the program by December, 2015.
I like to pre-assess students before I actually tutor them in order to get an understanding of what the child's strengths and needs are. Therefore, I can can better service these children to become successful and perhaps become more motivated within their own class. When students are actively engaged in the learning process, it then becomes fun and enjoyable for the child. I try to incorporate concrete examples and also integrate higher level thinking skills within my lessons.
I hope this opportunity to introduce myself will allow you to perhaps pursue the possibility of tutoring your child.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My master's degrees are in elementary education with a concentration in mathematics (K-8) and in reading. Both degrees were awarded frm Edinboro University of PA. I have had several years of experience teaching mathematics to both middle and high school level students.
I am currently an elementary teacher (4th grade) in a local public school system. I have been with this particular school district for 12 years. I have taught both special education and regular education classes.
I have a master's degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in mathematics (grades K-8) from Edinboro University of PA. I have taught math at both the elementary, middle, and secondary levels.
I teach a literacy block that contains a phonics segment to each theme that is presented in the text. I have taught summer school basic phonics skills to second grade students to improve fluency and comprehension.
I have two master of education degrees and am working on my doctoral dissertation in reading and literacy. I have tutored students in reading and phonics skills this past summer for two second grade students.
I believe that a hands-on approach is quite effective when teaching any subject because it fully engages the student in the learning process more fully.
I hold a special education teaching certificate from an approved local university program in education. Additionally, I have taught both emotionally support and learning support classes at the elementary level (K-6) for four (4) years in a local public school district.
I believe that students need a sense of organization when presented with materials in class and therefore, I can teach them how to formulate an outline and present the main ideas and supporting details that encompass the area of reading to learn.
