I have been teaching elementary classes for seven years. In that time, I have gained experience with students that have had various levels of learning including learning disabilities and special needs. My goal has always been to build a strong educational foundation for each of my students. My students have enjoyed learning through various games, projects, and hands-on activities. I have also recently gained experience with STEM.
When I am not teaching, one of my favorite things to do is coach. While coaching, I am tasked with diagnosing my players' strengths and weaknesses, and helping them to improve upon those skills. I believe that these skills and experiences can also be applied to tutoring. I am looking forward to having the opportunity for one-on-one communication between the student and myself, as well as helping to develop and further their strengths and weaknesses.
Throughout my years of teaching, I have successfully helped my students to grow by a full year of reading levels on a regular basis. This includes students in Title I, as well as, students with learning disabilities and special needs. I also have experience with Accelerated Reader, DIBELS, and Fountas and Pinnell Guided Reading programs.
Over the past three years, I have taught exclusively following the Common Core standards across all areas. I have a working knowledge of these standards and have utilized many of the best practices that go along with the Common Core.
I teach phonics on a daily basis in my classroom. We practice word building, letter/sound relationships, and phonemic awareness through the use of hands-on activities. The students truly learn to grasp these concepts during the hands-on activities and are capable of applying them during other assignments.
I have a very laid back, low stress personality. My goal is only to help my students in any way that I can. The learning process can be frustrating at times. However, I will provide a very relaxed learning environment without jeopardizing the learning process. I have been teaching elementary classes for seven years. I have been a parent to a child with ADHD for the past 10 years. I also have experience helping students with ADHD in my classroom. I am well versed in many strategies that students with ADHD may need to employ in order to be successful in an educational setting.
Played baseball throughout high school and have helped coach my sons throughout the years.
Head coach of elementary basketball teams for 3 years. Assistant coach of elementary basketball teams for 2 years. Ran an elementary basketball summer camp for 2 years. Currently running an adult basketball league through the summer.

In my seven years of teaching, I have taught the Zaner-Bloser and Peterson approaches to handwriting. My experience with these styles allows me to have a great understanding of how to teach and improve a student's handwriting.
I use Microsoft Windows every day at home and at work. I have a working knowledge of many of the keyboard shortcuts.
I teach phonics daily in an elementary setting. I have experience with the StoryTown reading series, which focuses mostly on word building and phonemic awareness. I also have experience with several different methods of teaching phonics. Mastery of these skills will greatly help students improve their reading.
