Learning is an exciting journey, and as a former teacher with 11 years of classroom experience followed by 4 years of tutoring experience, I've had the opportunity to guide and assist many students on their journey. One of my strengths is patiently guiding students of all ages through the learning process. An avid reader all my life and an enthusiastic life-long learner, I love helping students discover their own strengths while helping them to meet challenges and overcome obstacles.

Miss Kim is everything I wanted and more in a tutor for my 2nd grade daughter. Before Miss Kim homework time in my house was not fun, often ending in tears and frustration. In the three weeks since Miss Kim has been working with my daughter, homework time has been easier and her school work has dramatically improved. Miss Kim is patient, thoughtful, available and professional. I highly recommend her, you won't be disappointed.
My son is in third grade and we have encountered some very difficult struggles this School year in math. I have searched for so long for help and I am grateful we met Mrs. Kim. I feel she makes learning interesting for Damon and suggest helpful ideas to reinforce his learning at home. I am confident we will do better in math because we have a good teacher. I believe children are successful when teachers, family and friends work together. Mrs. Kim, we are delighted you can be apart of his community and support system.
I love KIM! She has helped my son with becoming much more independent and he understands his work much better. Kim works with my schedule and makes sure to have a sit down with me after every session to tell me what she went over with my son. I could not ask for a better tutor. Kim will help my son go a long way! I appreciate her a lot!
Ms. Kim took the time out to prepare for class beforehand and during the lesson she focused on the objective plus more. Towards the end my son was happy and excited to learn more. Can't wait to continue tutoring with her!!!
Kim has a very gentle nature and is extremely patient. She has an excellent understanding of how to teach. She is also very flexible and willing to meet your child's needs.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm a certified teacher with 11 years of experience. In my years as a classroom teacher, I had the opportunity to teach in four different states (a benefit of being a military spouse). I've taught grades 3-8 and have experience in both public and private schools. Being in a variety of school systems with students of different ages helped me develop my skills as an effective teacher. One of the things I enjoy most about tutoring is having the opportunity to use my skills one-on-one to help children experience a love of learning and a sense of success.
Math doesn't have to be mysterious. It doesn't have to be confusing and stressful. As an elementary teacher, I looked for ways to make math fun, interesting, and relevant for my students. I'm able to bring those same strategies to the students I tutor. My goal is to help my students see that math is a type of puzzle and a game. It doesn't have to be scary or frustrating.
As a third grade teacher, instruction and evaluation of cursive handwriting was part of the curriculum. I also found that providing feedback on handwriting and giving any needed assistance was an ongoing and critical aspect of my job as a teacher in each of the grades (3-8) I taught. Teaching and evaluating handwriting was also a component of my responsibilities as an ESL tutor.
Knowing how to study effectively can help alleviate student frustration while increasing learning and mastery. As a classroom teacher and as a tutor, I've found that helping students identify their learning style is the first step to more effective studying. From that point, I teach them specific study strategies and techniques that are aligned with how they learn best.
