East Stroudsburg University
Wilkes University (Master's)
I am a lifelong resident of Williams Twp (Easton). I have my masters degree and have taught high school math in public & private schools since 2000 as my second career after working for 14 yrs in HVAC piping design for Victaulic Company. I am currently homeschooling my children and really love tutoring math for WyzAnt because I have helped so many students reach their goals. Making parents and students happy is very rewarding!!
The true success of the tutoring is in the hands of your student. Students who obviously are not interested in getting help will not gain much at all. I will try my best to motivate them. But, because of the few spots I have for new students, I am interested in those who are going to really TRY their best. Students can show me that they are interested by trying problems and showing me their work so that I can see for myself what step they are struggling with. I need to see if it is a careless error or that they are misunderstanding the concept. If the student will not put in the effort, the parent needs to understand that there is not much I can do. Watching me do math for an hour will not help them improve. I need to see them try the math much like when you place music for your music teacher at a lesson.
If you are not happy for ANY reason at all with our tutoring session, PLEASE just let me know and I will not charge you for the session. I feel that I am a straight forward, step by step instructor. I really do understand why many people struggle with math and try to explain things in several different ways until I find out which way makes sense to the student. Building a strong math foundation is important. Understanding math is very similar to learning an instrument or a different language. It is hard in the beginning. But, with practice and by taking the advise of a tutor, you will eventually get it, IF you do not give up. The more math you have, the more options & opportunities you will have.
One on one tutoring is a great investment IF your student is willing to:
1) Read the examples in the book and try themselves to get the answer in the example.
2) Try their math problems first and show ALL their work. Then, ask questions when you do not understand an explanation. Do not be shy since you need to make sure that you get it.
3) Get used to the fact that you will not understand everything the first time. Do not give up or blame your teacher. Just keep asking me questions and showing me what you tried.
Please contact me today so that we can get started as soon as possible. We can accomplish a lot in 1 hour! I am a lifelong resident of Williams Twp (Easton). $30/hr tutoring at my home. $20/hr tutoring at my home weekdays starting before 3 pm. $35/hr tutoring in an office at a karate studio in Bethlehem Twp.
My daughter had a "graded" Honors Algebra Packet due the first day of school, summer assignment, that she (my daughter) was frustrated and in tears over due to lack of understanding/teaching method from her previous teacher. Happy to report, Tina S., helped my daughter in a most amazing way in a couple hour tutoring session, her "graded" summer assignment was returned with a grade of 96.5%. Tina S. is incredibly soft spoken, patient, knowledgeable, and wow; the list really is infinite for the kind words I can offer!!! She made an incredible, eye opening difference giving my daughter new insight and angle how to approach Algebra problems, amazing confidence builder!!! My daughter just entered her sophomore year and now has a new teacher which she is much happier with - needless to say, Mrs S helped her over a major learning hurdle to understanding! Thank you so much!!! I Highly recommend!!
She was easy for my son to understand he loved the session and a time that he has with her
My daughter loves working with Tina for SAT math prep. She is excellent in her teaching methods and wants her students to succeed. I could not have found a more wonderful tutor to assist my daughter. What a difference she has made in my daughter's confidence.
Refresher course for geometry, the lesson went well. She is knowledgeable and patient. Had used Tina before and happy with her.
My son says she is very good with teaching and feels that she is really helping him with the math
Alyssa needed a review of some concepts, in particular functioning, up to this point in her Honors Algebra 2 class. She told Tina a few times that she wasn't understanding functioning, but that wasn't part of the tutoring. Also, Tina went ahead into things to come, when Alyssa still needs help in the overall material already covered in class.
When she mentioned about functioning, I asked for the student to show me what exactly she meant in her textbook or notes. She could not find any examples in her textbook or her notes of what she meant. So, I tried to come up with some things that I thought she meant. She said that she understood those things. So, I then asked her to try to get her teacher to let her borrow back her midterm so that she could write down what she did not get correct. I really wanted to figure out what it was she got wrong in the past so that it would not happen again.
In the meantime, for me to access her Algebra II skills, and since she had the SAT tests in a few weeks, I felt it was appropriate since she had nothing to show me that she struggled with, to look ahead at what she was starting next in class and review and see where her skills were since all the topics are also in Algebra II. Sometimes when you look ahead it reveals what past skills are lacking that you need to use.
Tina was tutoring my son in algebra 2 last year. She was great, very patient and was able to easily explain the material. It was very easy to schedule appointments with her; she was very flexible. Couldn't have done it without her.
Tina did an excellent job with our son, he was struggling with algebra. Tina was very patient and took the time necessary to explain to him how to solve problems. He scored an 86% on his Final Exam and passed the class, I give Tina all the credit for my son's achievement. Thank you and we will be using her in the future. Thank you.
Tina was very patient and enthusiastic with my daughter. She made her feel very comfortable and explained all of the concepts that they went over very well. Should the need arise, we will definitely be giving Tina a call again.
My son had a worksheet due right before Thanksgiving, at the last minute he tells me it's too hard, he's having problems with it. I literally called Tina at 7am to make an appointment. Thank God she was able to help!
I thought I would never understand Math or get a GED. That all changed when I contacted Tina S. She help me pick out the problems I did not understand, teach me them, then help motivate me to improve on my weaknesses. Tina is a great tutor. She tutors at your home or you can study in the comfort of her home. I studied at her house for a great price from WyzAnt.com. She help me study for two months a few days a week, til I finally could understand what I was doing. Then I scheduled the GED test took it and passed with 30 points higher then the average passing score. I think Tina S. is a great teacher and if you want to start breathing a lot better not being so worried because of math then I would say she is the one to help you breath and believe you can do it. Thank you again to Tina S.
Great tutor, my son really liked her and learned a lot. Also very accommodating to his busy schedule. Highly recommend.
My daughter was struggling with Pre-Calculus before she received tutoring from Tina S. Tina provided an understanding atmosphere, demeanor, and strategy which has dispelled my daughter's teenage doubts with her ability for success. I am personally grateful.
After one visit with Tina my son got 100% on a math test. We see Tina on a weekly basis and are very pleased.
My personal experience with WyzAnt is phenomenal. My daughter like the way Ms T. personal approach as a mother, also as an excellent teacher prepare her for the next SSAT test. She feels more confident on her regular school assignment and ready to score much higher on her next SAT test.
I used Tina S. for SAT math tutoring. The first time I took the SAT I received a 530, with about two months of tutoring, I was able to raise that to about a 600! I cannot begin to say how helpful she was. From day one she knew exactly what we needed to do and every week she would do the problems along with me before our next meeting. She didn't just do the problems either, she explained them. She knows all the little tricks about the SAT questions that I had never realized before. Her constant communication with me over email and availability made it possible for a highly active high school student to meet with her once a week. Perhaps, most importantly, she really cared about helping me. She gave me notebooks full of the problems we did and was always available over email or by phone to answer questions. I can not thank her enough.
My son got an A on his FINAL EXAM after 4 sessions with TINA! My Husband and I are very happy we gave her a chance!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I only want students who will actively do the practice work before each lesson. My advise is to only use the official ACT practice book. The other practice books cannot plagiarize the test and do not read like the test. Also, to go to the official ACT website listed as actstudent asap and have your student go to the test prep section and try and complete the 5 modules for the math section. Contact me and I can give you any other information that I have gathered on this new test. I believe one on one tutoring far exceeds the big expensive ACT classes. With your student's effort and my guidance, he or she will improve their score as well as help their math foundation for current and future math classes.
I only want students who will try the homework, read the examples in their book and take notes. I have taught Algebra 1 Since 2000. If you are willing to do the work before you come and see me, then I will do everything I can to help you understand.
I am looking for students who really are trying to learn. They take notes and are willing to try the problems in their textbook. I love teaching Algebra 2! I have methods that I would love to share that enable you to check your answers so that you can know you are correct. I really enjoy teaching students new ways in which they can use their graphing calculators (TI-83 plus or higher). While we are studying Alg 2 we can work on other skills needed for the SAT and or ACT test.
Please note that I only am able to help with the Math portion of the ASVAB. My advice is to do as many math practice questions as you can before we meet. That way, I can see clearly from our first meeting how much work we need to do. Kahn academy has some good free tutorials that will explain some of the math skills. Also I like the website purple math to help explain some skills. I am honored to help you on your journey to serve our country.
I am interested in helping students who are taking notes, trying their homework and care about learning. Advanced Geometry was the course in college that I really excelled in since I am a visual learner. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoy the visual problems that involve algebra. Proofs are the other aspect of Geometry. They are also important, so I will help your student think logically so that they understand the order in which they need to order their proof statements.
Please note that I can only help you with the Math portion of the GMAT. Before we start I would get a practice book and complete as many of the math questions as possible. I look forward to helping you prepare for this test. Please let me know what date you plan to take the test.
Please note that I only help prepare for the math portion of the GRE. Before we meet, I would ask you to do as many practice math problems as possible so that I can see on our first meeting how much work we need to do.
Pre-Algebra is an important stepping stone to lay a solid foundation for the rest of your students mathematics. I know what is involved in Alg1, 2 and beyond so I teach Pre-Algebra with the future in mind so that they can make the future connections. Students need repetition so encourage your student to do as many different typed of problems for the same skill so that they can experience all the aspects of that skill. I would visit websites that have interactive games to reinforce skills. Upon our first contact I will give you the names of websites I recommend.
Begin preparing by first completing your practice booklet. Come and see me to go over problems missed. I can give you all of the important newest information.
The March 2016 New SAT is very different from previous tests. My advice is to only use the NEW official Collegeboard practice book with four tests. I believe one on one tutoring far exceeds the big expensive SAT classes. With your student's effort and my guidance, he or she will improve their score as well as help their math foundation for current and future math classes.
