I am a lifelong resident of Easton and currently only tutor out of my home so that I can accommodate the most amount of students. I have my masters degree and have taught high school math in public & private schools since 2000. I currently home school my youngest child & tutor only at my home so that I can see more students. I have current clearances. We have a timid greyhound dog but the dining room we will tutor in have fully open glass doors so the dog cannot come in. Parents can either go on errands at many nearby stores or relax in my living room.

The true success of the tutoring is in the hands of your student. Students who are not interested in getting help will not gain much. I will try my best to motivate them. Because of the few spots I have for new students, I am interested in those who are going to really TRY their best. Students can show me that they are interested by trying problems and showing me their work so that I can see for myself what step they are struggling with.

If you are not happy for ANY reason at all with our tutoring session, PLEASE just let me know directly and I will not charge you for the session. I feel that I am a straight forward, step by step instructor. I really do understand why many people struggle with math and try to explain things in several different ways. Building a strong math foundation is important. Understanding math is very similar to learning an instrument or a different language. With practice, you will eventually get it, IF you do not give up. The higher math you have, the more options & opportunities you will have.

Please contact me today so that we can get started as soon as possible. We can accomplish a lot in 1 hour!

Subjects

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

I only want students who will try the homework, read the examples in their book and take notes. I have taught Algebra 1 Since 2000. If you are willing to do the work before you come and see me, then I will do everything I can to help you understand.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I am looking for students who really are trying to learn. They take notes and are willing to try the problems in their textbook. I love teaching Algebra 2! I have methods that I would love to share that enable you to check your answers so that you can know you are correct. I really enjoy teaching students new ways in which they can use their graphing calculators (TI-83 plus or higher). While we are studying Alg 2 we can work on other skills needed for the SAT and or ACT test.
Geometry,

Geometry

I am interested in helping students who are taking notes, trying their homework and care about learning. Advanced Geometry was the course in college that I really excelled in since I am a visual learner. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I enjoy the visual problems that involve algebra. Proofs are the other aspect of Geometry. They are also important, so I will help your student think logically so that they understand the order in which they need to order their proof statements.
Prealgebra,

Prealgebra

I have been teaching Pre-Algebra since 2000. Pre-Algebra is an important stepping stone to lay a solid foundation for the rest of your students mathematics. I know what is involved in Alg1, 2 and beyond so I teach Pre-Algebra with the future in mind so that they can make the future connections. Students need repetition so encourage your student to do as many different typed of problems for the same skill so that they can experience all the aspects of that skill. I would visit websites that have interactive games to reinforce skills. Upon our first contact I will give you the names of websites I recommend.
SAT Math,

SAT Math

I love how excited parents and students are when their scores improve after tutoring. I taught a 9 week SAT math elective course in high school and have done much private tutoring with much success. The March 2016 New SAT is very different from previous tests. My advice is to only use the NEW official Collegeboard practice book with four tests. I believe one on one tutoring far exceeds the big expensive SAT classes. With your student's effort and my guidance, he or she will improve their score as well as help their math foundation for current and future math classes.

ACT Math,

ACT Math

I love how excited parents & students are when their scores improve after tutoring. This math test is a skill driven test whereas the SAT test is more problem solving. The ACT includes a science section. My advise is to only use the official ACT practice book. The other practice books cannot plagiarize the test and do not read like the test. Also, to go to the official ACT website listed as actstudent asap and have your student go to the test prep section and try and complete the 5 modules for the math section. Contact me and I can give you any other information that I have gathered on this new test. I believe one on one tutoring far exceeds the big expensive ACT classes. Trigonometry is often now combined with Algebra 3 and called Pre Calculus. I can help with this course if the student is in close contact with their teacher since the course can vary greatly based on the teacher.

Also I like the website purple math to help explain some skills. I am honored to help you on your journey to serve our country.

Wonderful tutor

My son loved Tina, she was very nice and worked great with him. She was very honest with us about Trig identities and suggested if we could find another tutor to help my son in more detail to please do. She helped him get passed his homework last night so that alone is great. Thank you for going above and beyond what you needed to do and was still sending information the next day. I would highly suggest her as a tutor. Thank you, Tina!!!

Tina is a super tutor. My 16-year-old son really benefited from his sessions with her. Great communication and flexibility for tutoring sessions. I would highly recommend Tina as a tutor.

Highly Recommend Tina!

Tina helped an incredible amount with my summer college algebra class at Northampton. I have failed at math my whole life and struggled more than I'd like to admit and have been out of college for 6 years so I was completely rusty but Tina explained everything to me in way that made me understand more clearly and sat with me until I understood. She spent 3 hours with me one day just so I could get all my online assignments done! She was more than willing to fit me in to her schedule whenever she could and even let me borrow her calculator for my class. She always answered my texts right away and was just a huge help in getting me an A. I would never ever have been able to do it without her and I am so thankful to her for helping me get through that class. If you need help in any math class she is your girl. I 100% recommend her. THANK YOU TINA!!

Many thanks to Tina!

Tina tutored my son in preparation for the math section of the ACTs. Tina is a kind and patient teacher. My son felt comfortable working with her immediately. She helped build his confidence and strength his skills. Tina is so flexible about scheduling appointments. I only wish we met her years ago!

Knowledgable, patient and kind

We have tried several tutors over the years. The first session my daughter had with Tina was a huge success!! Tina's approach on how to determine my daughter's strengths and weaknesses and how to teach her were spot on. After her first session, my daughter said Tina was "amazing!!" It was music to my ears. We look forward to having our daughter's understanding of algebraic concepts flourish under Tina's guidance.

Informative and Knowledgeable Tutor

My son was happy to gain practical test taking skills needed for the ACT Math section and fundamental functions/formulas needed to excel and improve his score. He is happy to be able continue more sessions with Tina. Thank you.

Excellent, knowledgeable, patient tutor

Tina is working with my twin sons for SAT math prep. From the very first lesson they felt they learned something immediately, and have gained confidence with the second lesson because she explains everything patiently and clearly. They are enthusiastic about the tutoring because they see it making a difference and actually said they are "excited" about taking the SATs because they feel like they will do well!

Increased Math ACT from 20 to 26...thanks Tina!!!

Our daughter is an 11th grader and hasn't had Algebra I since 8th grade and Honors Geometry since 9th grade and so she needed a tutor to review some of the concepts again prior to taking her College ACT Board Exams. Tina provided our daughter approx 6 lessons over 2 months and mad a MAJOR difference fo our daughter. Initially, she had 2 sessions with Tina prior to her first ACT exam and she scored very low in Math with just a 20. Her composite score on that Exam was a 25 so Math was dragging her Overall Composite score down significantly. However, we continued with 4 more tutoring seesions with Tina prior to her 2nd ACT sitting and it paid off in a big way. Our daughter increased her ACT Math score from a 20 the first time to a 26 the 2nd time!!! Tina made some key suggestions after her 1st ACT test, identified need areas, and focused in on those need areas. The strategy worked! Without Tina's guidance our daughter would not have made that type of improvement which has now opened up MANY more merit scholarship opportunities for our daughter. Tina is patient, responsible, professional, able to relate to kids, and is priced appropriately for the level of service she provides. I would not hesitate to recommend Tina for Math tutoring. My daughter's academic profile: 3.97 UW GPA, Top 5% of her class, many Honors courses and a few AP/DE courses.
