I worked in Ohio for two years as a Title I reading teacher for 2nd and 3rd graders. I was trained in a hands-on phonics program, Orton-Gillingham. I then moved back to my hometown of Pittsburgh, where I taught 1st grade. I love working with children and seeing the progress they make through daily classroom lessons or tutoring sessions. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

During my more recent years of teaching, I taught in Pennsylvania which also adopted the PA common core. I therefore had to align all my classroom lessons to PA common core standards.
