I have taught English as a Second Language to students from 2nd-6th grade, 9th through 12th grade, and adult students at the community college level. I have also tutored junior high/ middle school students in vocabulary and reading comprehension. I enjoy all aspects of languages. Luann was very patient with my total lack of knowledge about by new sewing machine. She helped me decipher the near-incomprehensible directions for threading the machine's needle. Never would have gotten my skirt lengthened without her!
Luann has been teaching German for years. I have never learned a foreign language before. I was feeling confused and kind of overwhelmed with it. Luann showed me how to go about learning German in an organized manner. She also told me about other resources on the web that are very helpful. This is still a big undertaking for me but I feel better about what I'm doing. I can work through it.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored high school and post-high school students who were studying to take the ASVAB. I have worked with them on the verbal and the mathematical sections of the test, and I have explained the answers to the problems when they didn't understand.

I have taught English as a Second Language to students from second grade to age 53, non-traditional college students. I have also had to teach English grammar as part of helping students learning another language. They need to know parts of speech so that they know how to change them in the foreign language. I have also written and edited my own papers for my Master's degree in Education.
I have taught elementary ESL/ESOL students for 1.5 years. I have taught high school ESL/ESOL students for 1.5 years, and I tutored and taught (regular and special needs) high-school ESL students for three months at the end of 2012, and the beginning of 2013. I spent a year during my junior year of college studying in Germany and living in a university dormitory with mostly German speaking students. We were supposed to only speak German, and I held to that requirement very well. I have also taught German at the high school level, most recently in 2011-12 in Manheim Central School District.
I have done many counted cross-stitch projects for myself and some needlepoint.
I have taken literacy courses as part of my studies for my master's in education with a concentration in English as a Second Language. I have also substitute taught in classes that were working through reading passages, and I am familiar with some of the processes used in gauging comprehension.
I have done sewing for myself and my family since I was in middle school. I made my own wedding gown with long, mutton-chop sleeves, lace, and applique. I spent 40 hours making it. I have made clothes for children and sewn other items, such as potholders and caddies for hot casseroles.

As a teacher for many years, I believe I can help a person by giving him or her different strategies to help him/ her to organize notes, examine the pages of the required reading material for the information and clues as to what is going to be deemed important by the instructor, outline the material for which they are responsible, and organize and create a space in their living area that would be conducive to studying.
I have taught ESL to students from 2-6th grade and from 9th-12th grade. I have also taught one year of advanced intermediate ESL at Harrisburg Area Community College in York. This included listening, speaking, reading a short novel and answering questions and writing. Students also had to give an oral presentation at the end of the course. They also did group projects with 1-2 other people.
