I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry and undergraduate degrees in both Chemistry and Mathematics. I enjoy sharing my knowledge of both Math and Chemistry and have tutored both subject areas. I try to teach students basics then encourage and help them to solve more complicated problems. I stress problem solving skills and like to use demonstrations and physical models to explain abstract concepts. For example, I teach molecular shapes using marshmallows and tooth picks that a student can manipulate so see what a molecule looks like and how you could change the shape for various conditions.

For the last 3 years I have taught adjunct Chemistry classes at Ursinus College. I have worked with students from Kindergarten age through seniors in college. During my graduate program I was a G K-12 fellow and taught kids from K - 8 experiment based science lessons. This range of experience with students has allowed me to learn to teach to students with a wide variety of backgrounds and experience.

I have an undergraduate degree in Mathematics and have been actively using my math skills as a part of my research in Chemistry. I teach these subject areas as a part of training students in Chemistry and have plenty of real world examples of using these math skills.

I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry and have been teaching it for the last several years on the college level. I have taught General Chemistry courses as well as Physical Chemistry. The Gen. Chem. courses have been focused on different perspectives; forensics and environmental chemistry. I have collected examples of chemistry applied to real world problems and of simple household chemical based demos and experiments.

Elementary Education

Elementary Math,

Elementary Math

I worked for three years co-teaching (with elementary teachers) science lessons to elementary students as a fellowship during my graduate education. These lessons incorporated core mathematics for each grade level.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I had a fellowship in graduate school teaching science in cooperation with elementary teachers for three years. The lessons I taught were experiment based on a great deal of fun. I can teach elementary science through experiments instead of text based lessons.

I have a Math B.A. and use Algebra often.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have taught reviews of this topic for various science classes. I can therefore give you needed background but also application based problems.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry and have been teaching General Chemistry at the college level for 3 years. In those classes I have focused on general problems, forensics based problems, or environmental issue based problems, so I have a variety of real world examples.

Physical Science

I have a Ph.D. in Chemistry and read extensively about topics in other science areas. I enjoy teaching sciences from an experimentally based perspective when possible and from a problem solving perspective when not. (You can experiment with lots of things to demonstrate tornadoes but experimenting to learn about hurricanes generally involves models on a computer which is not quite the same thing).

Cooking

I have taken several cooking courses and am working on teaching my children to cook. I therefore specialize am becoming adept at teaching knife skills, hygeine skills, measuring and time management techniques in the kitchen.

Helps my daughter excel!

Mary is an excellent teacher. She easily breaks down concepts and makes them easy to understand. As a parent, I know it's difficult to find the right person to relate on difficult concepts like Chemistry. Mary has exceeded my expectations and my daughter enjoys the lessons.

Great!

My son had over 10 classes with Mary to review different pre-algebra topics. Mary is very patient, she is great explaining complex material, she understood our son's needs and planned the classes to cover requested material. She came always prepared. We will be definitely in touch to have you come again! Thanks so much! - Alex

Great Teacher!

Our son has been going to Mary for help with Chemistry for a few weeks now. He tells us that she makes things very clear, goes into great detail and goes deeper than he gets in high school. He says that she makes the theoretical stuff relevant. Best of all he comes out of each session, energized, confident and excited to do more chemistry!

Helpful

Mary did a great job helping my son review his algebra 2 notes for his final. She gave great tips on how to write notes and how to review what was written.
