Hello students, parents, and potential clients!

I am currently looking for several highly motivated students who want to take their math and science skills to the next level. It's my goal to help my students achieve 100% of their potential and to make math a less stressful subject for them.

Math is not magic! It is a skill and anyone can learn a skill. I won't lie and say that there is any quick route to math or science success. It will require independent work, study and practice, outside of not only the classroom but outside of independent lessons.

I do SAT I & II test prep, AP test prep, and homework help. Currently, I am working to advance one of my student's math education beyond what's being offered in class, and would certainly do so for anyone who wants to get ahead and possibly test out of a class. I would definitely like to try my hand at homeschooling.

I answer all the questions that students don't want to answer in class for fear of "looking stupid." I will get you back on the bandwagon if you are behind in class and if you are cruising, I can introduce new, challenging material. I will help you achieve that test score that will look oh-so-nice on your college application. Drop me an email if you're interested in grabbing the math bull by the horns!

Also, feel free to check out my blog to see that I am actually a real human being and not some impersonal profile!

Here's some reviews from my Drexel students :

Physics 201 : Modern Physics, Spring Quarter '13
"Best TA I've ever had. Extremely knowledgable, extremely helpful, always entertaining."

"The instructor was great. He provided different methods of teaching that helped me understand certain concepts in a number of different ways. The instructor was enthusiastic and provided great examples."

"Karsten is the only reason I am passing physics. This is the only place I learned physics. I wish I had him freshman year in physics. Karsten would be an absolutely phenomenal professor and I guarantee he will spread a greater understanding and appreciation for physics."

"The most beneficial aspect of this recitation was definitely the instructor. Chu taught with enthusiasm and great knowledge. He made the recitations fun by injecting humor into the conversation of the work at the appropriate times. He clarified many things in lecture that the lecture was not clear about. I would highly recommend Chu as a T.A. in the future."

I've been developing in C++, CUDA C, Python, Octave and R daily since I began as a graduate student in 2011. I've put together three complicated numerical models in C++ and CUDA C since that time, each one a practical experience in Object Oriented Programming techniques. My skills got me hired as a professional Software Engineer at Lockheed Martin. I'm most proficient in C++ but Python is a close second. I've never taught programming, but I'm a very experienced tutor so I should be able to communicate lessons in programming fairly easily.

Karsten is amazing!!!

My son met with Karsten for several Saturdays (usually for an hour and a half) at the Chester County Library for math tutoring. My son had taken his SAT in December and obtained a score of 630 in math. After several sessions with Karsten, he took the SAT again and obtained a score of 740! My son and I both agree that Karsten is a great teacher and a super smart guy! So glad we found him!

Just Outstanding

Karsten has been a blessing to our family for over 2 years for my son as a junior in high school after suffering a bad concussion, through physics and SAT prep. He was just outstanding in both his ability to work at an appropriate pace and teach in a way that empowers the student to grasp the material. He brought my son back up to the A's he enjoyed in a matter of months. Just recently we called upon his help, knowing his very busy schedule, for my son now in college with chemistry and calculus. His scope of knowledge is so extensive and he has the rare ability to expertly cover difficult material concisely and effectively while relating in a way that is genuine, humorous and enjoyable. My son holds him in the highest regard. It is another credit to his character and teaching values when I recently ran into a friend's daughter who attends Drexel University and had Karsten as her TA/Professor - glowing remarks from her as well and dubbed him the favorite professor on campus, with the ability to teach college physics without confusion. Karsten is a very rare individual and a very very smart man! Run, don't walk, to Karsten for any help you may need.

Knowledgeable and effective .

Karsten is an amazing tutor. He explained physics in a way my son was able to grasp and helped him go from a B to an A.

Great tutor and very patient and humorous.

My daughter was in 6th grade when she started having difficulty with her math lesson plan. We knew right away that we would have to find a tutor for her, but how? I went on the internet and up popped WyzAnt. Not only was it an easy website to navigate; we found the best tutor for our daughter. She was very shy at first with Karsten, but he has a way about him that allows a student to feel smart and capable of learning math at any level. He made math easy for her to comprehend and she looked forward to her weekly lesson with Karsten. Her grade went from a high C to an A in less than one semester. She is now in eighth grade and on her way to high school with a scholarship. Karsten is still a big part of her math study program. Once a week for an hour or as long as they deem necessary, he tutors my daughter and she excels in math. He used to come to our home in Exton once a week, but we moved to Downingtown, PA. He still tutors her once a week, but not at our home, on Skype. She uses a pad that is connected to her Mac and it is amazing how easily they get it done. I am sure that Karsten will continue to be an important part of our daughter's learning team and he has quickly endeared himself with our family. I highly recommend this tutor and I give my personal endorsement to anyone who has a son or daughter who is struggling with math.

Great Tutor!

Karsten was a great tutor. He was patient, flexible, and knowledgeable. In a short time, I was able to thoroughly prepare for the math section of the SAT. Not only did my score go up substantially, but I gained a greater understanding of math overall. Karsten’s method of teaching is easy to understand and the confidence he builds ensures that you believe you can achieve success. I’ve always been a weak math student, but after working with Karsten I found that the overwhelming jumble of seemingly impossible math problems on the SAT was both understandable and manageable. I would highly recommend Karsten!

Tutor responded:

Thank you very much for being such a great student, Analise. I wish you the greatest of success, but with your work ethic, I doubt you'll have much trouble finding that.

Awesome Tutor

Karsten was an awesome "find" for my son who was struggling in math. He is extremely patient and has the ability to explain difficult concepts in simple language. Karsten also had a magnificent way to challenge my son to build skills beyond the current subject matter. Not only did my son's grade in Math increase it was his highest Final exam grade at the end of the year! Karsten is dependable, extremely knowledgeable and built a great relationship with my son. I highly recommend Karsten as a tutor!!

Excellent all around tutor!

I feel Karsten has been an excellent tutor for my daughter. He has been such a help to us, not only in bringing up her grade and helping her understand difficult math concepts, but helping her to become more confident and actively involved in her math class. She quickly went from below grade level math to excel, with A's, on a higher grade level. Karsten was positive, clear, goal oriented, had a firm grasp of the material and always kept me, as the parent informed as to how each session went and what material was covered. I am grateful, not only for his professionalism and dependability but his good cheer, personable ways and patience. Thank you Karsten!

Tutor responded:

Thank you *very* much, Mrs. G, for the testimonial. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you again for your continuing patronage and the privilege to work with your daughter. She's been a fantastic student, always attentive, committed to learning and not once have I heard her complain. It has been nothing but a pleasure working with you and your family and I look forward to seeing you all again after the summer break concludes!

Excellent tutor

Karsten tutored my son in College Physics I. My son did not have physics or precalc in high school and was therefore behind the other students in his class. This physics course was required for his major. This was a 6 week summer course and at the end of week 1, my son was flunking this class. I hired Karsten who worked with my son two to three nights a week for the remaining five weeks. Karsten not only got my son to pass physics but also gave him a good fundamental understanding of the principles of physics. Karsten is an excellent tutor and I highly recommend him. Lastly, Karsten is very reliable and dependable.

Barbara, 10 lessons with Karsten

The perfect tutor!

Karsten possesses all the qualities that I find necessary in a good tutor: he is patient, attentive, encouraging, accommodating and very capable in the areas that he teaches. He helped me prepare for my final calculus exam and was tireless in ensuring that I was confident with the material and able to tackle problems on my own. He was also the first person to ever make me feel as if I was a competent math student and capable of success - as someone who has always struggled with math, I was shocked to find that with some good instruction and extra attention I could not only understand the material and do the problems, but I could actually ENJOY it as well! Karsten's encouragement coupled with his careful explanations of important concepts and his willingness to meet with me frequently (and on short notice) leading up to my final exam allowed me to walk into the test feeling very confident. My one regret is not finding him sooner!
