About Nancy

Being a teacher has always been my profession of choice. I have a career which spans over 20 years in education, serving and such capacities as: tutor, mentor, teacher, advocate, administrator and educational consultant. My experience has provided me with opportunities to work with students and parents from rural, suburban, urban, and city communities. My work in these areas have decrease student retention, raised state assessment scores, and increased graduation percentages. I have been recognized and nominated for Who's Who of America's Teachers fourteen times.

My one-on-one tutoring style allows for individual focus on needs, weaknesses, concerns, and absent skills, thus maximizing student comprehension and performance. My students were all able to increase their overall marking period grade by at least 1 grade level or a 10% increase in grade percentage.

I have also taught community ESL classes. Clients have sought after my assistance, due to my overall success rate and the progressive confidence gained by students. My public speaking talent has been sought out by educational institutions (ex.commencement speeches, benedictions, and curricular presentations) and community members for various events (ex. mall children's book readings, reading at weddings and funerals, and being the MC special occasions)

As a Spanish teacher, I've been able to: optimize student learning and productivity through individual language learning plans, increase the percentage of students who took the advanced placement test and passed, grow the number of students who chose Spanish to complete their foreign language requirement, and decrease the failing student population.

I am always excited to get started with a new challenge from a new student. Education and teaching are passions of mine - giving 100% to each and every person and session. You will never leave a session with an unanswered question or a gap in your comprehension. So let's get started on your pathway to: new learning, new performance and productivity levels, and expanded confidence that's going to take you to another level in your (educational) career!

My tutoring specifics are as follows:
1. lessons can be in person, through videoconferencing or a blended platform;
2. flexible tutoring hours for videoconferencing - in person hours are set 2:30-9:00 (unless it is a special circumstance);
3. hourly rates may vary (ex. lesson platform, travel, student needs, materials needed)

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Common Core

I have received training through the Pennsylvania Department of Education on curriculum writing and aligning district curriculum to the common core standards. I have been a part of this process in three school districts with dramatic variances in population and state description: suburban (12,000 / AYP / safe school / wealthy / school board run), urban (8,000 / No AYP / unsafe school / poor / state run), city (18,000 / No AYP / border unsafe school / dual local & state control). I have led professional development seminars on the Common Core. I have team-taught with my K-5 teachers, using the Common Core, and assisted them in employing better instructional practices to maximize student comprehension.

Elementary (K-6th)

I served as a PreK-8 elementary principal. I have working knowledge of the curriculum and Common Core changes for every grade. I researched and made final decisions for all materials and ancillaries. I have experience teaching in each classroom, in every grade, on a weekly basis. My students reading and math scores increased and we were the number one elementary in my school district (Pennsylvania State School Profile).

Handwriting

As an elementary administrator, I gained daily training, from my teaching staff, during the handwriting portion of our curriculum. I led / team-taught several handwriting lessons grades K-5. I have researched and practiced various techniques (from beginner formulation of each letter to script penmanship). I received personal training and critiquing from professional calligraphers.

Public Speaking

I satisfactorily completed undergraduate communications coursework at West Chester University. I was invited to deliver the benediction speech for DelCo Allied Health Program School of Nursing. I was chosen to represent the West Chester Area SD for the Presidential Blue Ribbon Award. I have been a chosen presenter for The Pennsylvania State Education Association, the National Education Association, Southeast Region (Chester / Delaware County public schools), and at various professional development summits within PA and NJ.

Spanish

~Spanish K12 certification, PDE
~20+ years of successful teaching (nominated for Who's Who of America's Teachers multiple times and received district commendations for my instruction and curriculum contributions).
~Taught, tutored, written curriculum, translated and interpreted in Chester, Delaware, Berks and Baltimore (MD) counties for (Pre)K12 rural, suburban, urban, and city shool districts.

Study Skills

I've been a professional tutor for K-adult education for over 20 years. My success rate for study skills and grade Improvement has been documented within my students' individual education plans and report cards, teachers' anecdotal notes, and recognized through district commendations. I am presently tutoring second generation students and assist local schools where tutoring programs are not available
