My passion is teaching. I have had many unique and challenging teaching opportunities over the past 20 years. This has challenged me and enabled me to think outside the box to address a great variety of needs. I have the ability to analyze difficult tasks and instruct the student in small segments, while providing constant feedback and assessment, which enables the student to experience success.
Most recently, I have fulfilled the requirements for a Masters Degree in Special Education. I have enjoyed the challenging course work and the privilege of working with special needs students. My special needs students had made great progress during the course of the year. It was very rewarding for me, because for many of my students it was the first time they were successful in an academic setting. I thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity to work with each student.
Teaching in a general education and a special education classroom has enabled me to develop a variety of strategies to address reading difficulties. What works for one student may not be effective for another student, so a variety of strategies is essential for success.
As an elementary education teacher, it is essential for the teacher to know the student's prior knowledge. As an educator, I am constantly assessing and providing direction and instruction on the student's level and commensurate with the student's prior knowledge. This way, if there are any gaps in their knowledge, these areas can be addressed so the student is able to understand and comprehend new information. This enables the student to experience success with material they already know and to utilize and build upon this knowledge for continued learning and success.
My first priority in working with special needs students is to encourage each individual to reach their full potential. I strive to enhance and increase their strengths while addressing their deficiencies. I have found this allows special needs students to improve and be successful in areas of strength. In contrast, many times special needs students are 'forced' to focus on their weakness, thus being held back and limited on the great progress they can make when utilizing their strengths.

Great tutor

She was very patient with my nine-year-old son and she helped him with his math and verbs, and talked to him so he could understand about what he was learning. It was his first lesson with her and we plan on many more to help him through the year.

Shes very understanding and patient

School just started this month for my 6th grader and shes having a hard time in math. I try to help her myself as best as I can but Becky loves to help my daughter to grasp math and is helping her so much already.I'm so glad and very happy that Becky is my daughters tutor for math. I know my daughter will do much better with her help. :)
