I love teaching in the classroom, and I love working with students individually, helping each one reach his or her full potential. I have extensive tutoring experience with students from elementary to adults. I have also taught language arts classes in middle school, college composition courses, and adult ESL classes. This broad range of experience makes me an effective tutor to just about any student at any age or from any walk of life. I have also worked with children with behavioral health issues both in a residential children's home and as therapeutic staff support (TSS), so I find no student too challenging to work with.
Feedback from my classrooms and from my tutoring sessions has been consistently positive. I work hard to form a good relationship with my students and to create a non-threatening atmosphere that is conducive to learning. At my last teaching position, I was voted "Teacher of the Year" -- a student selected award given based on my willingness and availability to help students even after class hours. I can honestly say that teaching is a joy to me, and I firmly believe that students enjoy learning when the teacher/tutor makes learning enjoyable. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with students with Aspergers as a Therapeutic Staff Support (one-on-one aide) in an academic school setting with behavioral health services.
I have a bachelor's degree in Religious Education from a Bible College. All undergrad students had to major in Bible along with another major of choice in order to graduate from Davis College (formerly Practical Bible College). I have extensive knowledge and training in the Bible, currently teach Sunday School and am active in the Christian faith.
I have experience as an academic counselor, working specifically with adults In a continuing education program. My responsibilities involved helping adult students build a class schedule around their jobs and in line with their chosen career paths.
I have taught public speaking courses in high school and college. I have 7 years of experience in this particular subject area. Also, I speak publicly as a teacher.
I have been a teacher or a tutor for 15 years. As a teacher or tutor, I'm always encouraging students in proper study habits and training them to improve. I have also worked as an academic counselor where I encouraged discouraged and frustrated adults in managing their time well in order to succeed academically.
