La Salle University; Middlebury College language program (French, Art History)
I have years of experience working with the French language and Art History and it is great to help others learn! I was fortunate to study abroad, participate in amazing language programs, and work with others who enjoy the liberal arts. There weren't too many opportunities for me to speak French outside of the classroom as I was growing up, and it is important to make such outlets available. I would be honored to tutor in the French language or simply be someone a student could comfortably practice with! I have a full time museum job but can make myself accessible, as I wholeheartedly support the process of learning a language and the doors it can open.
I successfully completed a summer immersion program in French at Middlebury College during undergrad due to a scholarship awarded to me by the Alliance Francaise de Philadelphie. I later worked with the Alliance and developed a committee to found a group for students and young professionals to comfortably practice the language. I am also able to use the language at my job to translate, write letters, or make telephone calls. I started to learn French simply because I enjoyed it, but it has presented me with other amazing opportunities. I have also always enjoyed English grammar- partly because somehow I picked it up easily and the rules just make sense, but it didn't seem possible to easily learn a foreign language until I made sure I knew my native language! I have written essays for publications, numerous letters as part of daily correspondence, and I am in charge of a variety of archival material in my work. Without proper spelling, no languages make sense and people cannot communicate effectively. It is important that we maintain the integrity and history of languages by following certain rules and spelling correctly. I edit documents often and take spelling and grammar very seriously.
One of my majors was Art History and I have worked in a museum for 11 years. I have a great love of modern art but also of the Old Masters. I have studied, researched and examined paintings and sculptures for many years and my appreciation for the arts increases day by day!
I hope to make languages fun for people to learn! I have the patience and energy to conjugate a verb a hundred times or repeat the same phrase, as I have been there! Practice really does make perfect and I am happy to help! I have years of experience working with the French language and Art History and it is great to help others learn! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
