About Jessica

I understand that each student has unique strengths and needs. As a former classroom teacher, I have worked with students of varying interests, abilities, and content understanding. The key to success is making connections that support student understanding.

Education is one of my passions! I began tutoring when I was a Division I student-athlete at the Ohio State University. I have been a certified classroom educator in Florida (Physics 6-12) and PA (Middle Level Science 6-9). Additionally, I teach pre- and in-service teachers at the Gradate level at Duquesne University. I have taught at all levels - preK - adult.

I can help you make the connections between math and your real life!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Mechanical Engineering

I earned my undergraduate degree at the Ohio State University in Mechanical Engineering. I worked in the field in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and briefly in Florida prior to 2000. Though I have not worked in the field in several years, my experience in education has kept me close to math and physics.

Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook has been an essential part of my workflow since 2000. I can educate students on how to organize their mailbox, create and manage events with the calendar function, send meeting requests, and create distribution lists. There are a variety of features offered through Outlook that may be beneficial to users depending on workflow.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Microsoft Windows since my first computer purchased in the early 90's. I am tech savvy and currently work on a Windows 8 machine. I am an educator and have been instructional designer and instructional technology specialist. I can instruct students of any age to maneuver through, locate, and utilize essential components for their specific technology needs. I can also bring to light specific shortcuts that will make their work more efficient.

Swimming

I was a competitive swimmer form the age of 7. I was a scholar-athlete throughout high school, coached, and gave swimming lessons. I went to Ohio State on a swimming scholarship and was a scholar-athlete there as well. Additionally, I have been WSI certified in the past.

Web Design

I have worked on creating and maintaining websites since 2007 for the Department of Instructional Technology at Pittsburgh Public Schools, as an Instructional Designer with PLS 3rd Learning, and as an Adjunct Instructor with Duquesne University. With PPS, I created and maintained the Department webpages, as well as those for our annual Megaconference. As an Instructional Designer, I worked with the team to design and develop the webpages for courses for teachers, administrators, and instructional coaches. Additionally, as a graduate-level Adjunct Instructor at Duquesne University for the Instructional Technology Department, I teach pre- and in-service teachers a 4-week unit on web design including Simple Web Design, Design Aesthetics, Working with Typography and Tables, Layouts, Forms and Behaviors, Advanced Features for Repeated Contents, Diversity & Accessibility, Multimedia.
