Shippensburg University (History)
I am graduating from Shippensburg University in December with a bachelor's degree majoring in History with a minor in International Studies. My QPA is a 3.6 out of a 4.0 with a vast amount of knowledge in historical fields primarily focusing on American History. My expertise is geared more towards the United States post World War II, but I have taken several course prior to that time period that include the U.S. Civil War and Early American History. I have retained all of my books that I have used in college for history courses as well as notes to accompany those classes.
My experience includes tutoring primarily Freshmen and Sophomores that need assistance with World History or other history courses they are obligated to take both last spring and this fall semester. Although my expertise is in American History, I have taken courses on the French Revolution and Enlightenment, Medieval Europe from 300 to 1250, Latin America from 1500 to 1900's, and Islamic lands from 500 to 1700. Therefore, I well rounded in different historical topics and I have a minor in International Studies which assists with understanding different cultures and how people interact. My tutoring methods place the student in the driver seat where they discover the fascination and importance of history as I guide them along. I can assist with study habits, historical knowledge, and how to articulate one's self both orally and through writing essays. People use the phrase, "those who fail to learn from history, are doomed to repeat it." However, that is certainly not true as history is never the same because circumstances are always different. Through learning about our past, we receive a better understanding of why things are the way they are and it makes it a really fascinating subject. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
