Hello, I am looking forward to working with students who wish to develop their reading skills, at any grade level, K-12, and on all ability levels. I am currently teaching reading remediation to high school students in grades 7-12, but I am certified as a Reading Specialist to teach grades K-12, as well as all subjects at the elementary level, K-6. So if you have a son or daughter who needs help in elementary reading, math, science, social studies, or science, I am qualified in that area. If your child is a middle school or high school student working to advance or raise their reading performance I have a Master's Degree in Education as a Reading Specialist.
My love for teaching comes from the dedicated, caring handful of teachers I had growing up. I know what a difference one patient teacher can make, and I want to be that for other students so that they can realize their full potential, as well as build their confidence. I decided to specialize in reading because I know that without the ability to read and comprehend, learning can feel like an uphill battle. But, with the right strategies formulated to meet the needs of each unique learner, literacy can be a life long gift that realized by even the most struggling readers.
Whether your child is preparing for a test, falling behind in their classwork, struggles with comprehension, phonemic awareness, or simply reading confidence, specialized instruction from a private tutor like myself is sure to set them back on track. My experience in 1:1 tutoring goes back to my days of student teaching and extends most recently to my time spent tutoring a 2nd grader in my home. For all sessions I have a toolkit to evaluate independent reading level, and a variety of resources to implement an intervention. I will assess the needs of your child and address your concerns all while providing patience and motivation to help your child gain the confidence they need to succeed!

I am a patient teacher with experience working with students performing at grade level, as well as far above and below. I take a creative approach to learning and will first learn what type of learner you are and we will work from there. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a graduate of Edinboro University's Reading Specialist program, and I obtained a Master's degree in Education in 2013. As a certified Reading Specialist I am certified to teach reading to students grades K-12. I have completed several case studies and participated in a reading clinic where I employed a range of strategies proven to build student success in reading. I have experience interpreting data and test scores in order to develop an effective approach tailored to meet individual student needs. I am also certified in elementary education, grades K-6.
