For two years I worked as an Occupational Therapist with children from birth to three with developmental delays. Subsequently I worked with school age children from K to 12 in Charter Schools. Disabilities ranged from ADHD, handwriting delays, organization skills, Visual perceptual delays, and fine motor delays. These disabilities impacted writing, math and reading skills. There were many gains made by the children once the underlying problems were addressed. I prefer to work with younger children as I feel early intervention is most beneficial. I geared tutoring based on their individual interests and motivation. I used my skills as a OT to develop ways to teach math, reading and fine motor skills. eg. using adapted paper like 3 lined paper, graph paper, or bump lines. It helped to use trial and error to fit best with the child.
Sensory Integration techniques to address special needs.
I like to use a multi sensory approach to address each child's special needs. Learning should also be fun.
