I have been a tutoring for many years and I love it! I started tutoring when I was in high school. I worked at an after school program for middle school students for two years. The students that were apart of this program were generally students who either were falling behind in the class material or who had no motivation to actually complete their homework even though they knew the material well. This meant that I needed to help each student using various approaches. For the students that were behind in class and didn't understand the material, I would focus more on explaining concepts from different perspectives. Sometimes teachers explain a concept one way, but there are many ways to explain it that may be more helpful for a particular student. For the students who lacked motivation, I would focus more on explaining why something is important in the big picture. The subjects that this tutoring typically involved were middle school math and science, however, there were also times where I would help with history and English.

Following this, I was a tutor for over 2 years in college for multi-variable calculus. This tutoring experience included one-on-one interactions as well as large group tutoring sessions. Each week, I was required to attend 2 lectures to make sure I knew what the students were learning that week. I then held three weekly study sessions that any student in any of the multi-variable classes were allowed to attend. One challenge in this role was that in one semester, there were up to 7 different professors all teaching the same course. This meant that when students came to my study session, they could be learning different materials or some students may have a test coming up while others were trying to complete homework. To overcome this, I would generally group students who had the same professors and then rotate around the room. It kept me on my feet because I needed to switch seemlessly from teaching one concept to the next. There were also times that only one or two students would show up to a session. I enjoyed these sessions because I was able to really focus on what one particular student was struggling with.

There are several reasons why I enjoy tutoring. For one thing, now that I am an engineer in the the working world, I am not exposed to as much school anymore and I miss it! Tutoring will keep my skill and knowledge sharp. Most importantly, I love being able to truly help students and influence their futures. Its very rewarding seeing the ah-ha moment on a student's faces when they finally understand a concept.

While tutoring multi-variable calculus for over two years at a college level, I obtained my CRLA Master Tutor certification. This type of calculus is the highest level of calculus, so it incorporates many of the lower level concepts, making me qualified to teach most math subjects that fall below calculus. I also just love math in general and am very confident with my skills in algebra and geometry. I was on the math team in high school, which helped me think creatively when approaching a math problem.

I am also qualified to teach Biology because I was a Biomedical Engineering major in college and took a variety of biology related classes. I took many anatomy and physiology classes and labs. I also learned about biomechanics, medical devices, biomaterials, and biofluids. I received a 4.0 GPA while completing my Bachelors in Biomedical Engineering, so I am confident that I truly understood the concepts that were taught to me in these classes. In addition, in high school, I received a 5 (the highest score) on my AP Biology Exam.

Please contact me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Looking forward to meeting new students to tutor!
