About Rich

I really enjoy math and science and like helping other understand these subjects better. I have been tutoring others for many years (ever since I was in high school).

In fact, I enjoy teaching so much that I took a break from my very successful career as an electronics engineer so I could teach for several years. During that time I taught Geometry, Algebra 2, PreCalculus, Calculus, Physical Science, Chemistry and Physics. I was frequently sought out by students that were not in my classes for help and tutoring.

I want to help you succeed just as I have already done for many students of all abilities. I am especially good at finding new and innovative ways to explain and illustrate concepts and love to help even right-brained students find success in what are often difficult subjects for them. I am also good at helping to develop problem-solving skills. Such skills are very important in math and the physical sciences, but many students struggle in this area.

In college and graduate school I studied electrical engineering and took classes in Calculus, Differential Equations, Probability and Statistics, Finite Math, Linear Math, Classical and Nuclear Physics, and Chemistry. I have worked as a math and science teach in a private school and as an electronics engineer.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I tutored this subject for several years in a high school. I have also taught Geometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus and Calculus. I have also tutored students in all of these subjects plus Algebra. In college and graduate school I had several courses in advanced math such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Finite Math, and Linear Algebra.

Algebra 2

I taught Algebra 2 for several years in a high school along with Geometry, Precalculus and Calculus. I have also tutored students in all of these subjects plus Algebra. In college and graduate school I had several courses in advanced math such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Finite Math, and Linear Algebra.

Calculus

I taught Calculus in high school for several years and have tutored many students in it. I have also taught and tutored students in Geometry, Algebra 2, and PreCalculus. In college and graduate school I had several courses in advanced math such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Finite Math, and Linear Algebra.

Chemistry

I taught Chemistry for several years in high school at both the 9th grade-level and the 11th grade-level. I have also taught and tutored algebra, the math relevant to Chemistry. I also studied chemistry in college as part of my engineering curriculum.

Geometry

I taught Geometry for several years in a high school. It was one of my favorite math classes when I took it in 9th grade. I have also taught Algebra 2, Precalculus and Calculus. I have also tutored students in all of these subjects plus Algebra. In college and graduate school I had several courses in advanced math such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Finite Math, and Linear Algebra.

Physics

I taught this subject for several years in a high school at both the 9th grade-level and the 12th grade-level. I have also taught the following math classes that are relevant to Physics: Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. I also studied physics in college as part of my engineering curriculum.

Precalculus

I have found that many students struggle with Precalculus. I taught Precalculus in high school for several years and have tutored many students in it. I have also taught and tutored students in Geometry, Algebra 2, and Calculus, so know both the foundations from the courses leading up to Precalculus as well as how what is learned will be used in the future. In college and graduate school I had several courses in advanced math such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Finite Math, and Linear Algebra.

Trigonometry

I taught Trigonometry for several years and have tutored many students in it. I have also taught and tutored students in Geometry, Algebra 2, and Calculus, so know the foundations from the courses leading up to Trigonometry. Trigonometry is foundational for in engineering (my major in college). In college and graduate school I had several courses in advanced math such as Calculus, Differential Equations, Finite Math, and Linear Algebra.
