As a middle school teacher, I delivered information in an informative AND engaging style. While tapping into my students' interests I made sure they got real world experience in the subjects they learned. Nothing will be dry, sterile, or boring.

As a middle school teacher, I delivered information in an informative AND engaging style. While tapping into my students' interests I made sure they got real world experience in the subjects they learned. Nothing will be dry, sterile, or boring.

At the high school level where I currently teach, I understand the degree of rigor college bound students deal with. I challenge students without overwhelming them; stretching them to new limits so that they are ready for anything.

Because of my time substitute teaching, I am able to easily acquaint myself with students no matter their background.

As a tutor, I have prepared students for everything from NJASK in the third grade to the AP Physics exam. I have worked for reputable tutoring companies and know which styles work and which don't. I have more resources available to me due to this experience, and will be happy to share them with you.

My personal passions are sustainability and the environment, having studied Marine Biology as an undergraduate. In order to broaden my understanding of the world in which we live in, I minored in History durning my college years. I am also driven to pass on my knowledge, which is why I went on to earn a Masters Degree in Education from Kean University.

Outside of the field of education, I have been a whale watch spotter and announcer, a deep sea fisheries observer, and earned the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America.

Reading,

Reading

As a lifelong reader, I have found the written word to be one of the most powerful tools mankind has ever invented. It has allowed me to travel to faraway and impossible places, to explore new ideas, to laugh so hard I have literally fallen off of my chair. It has allowed me to learn new things, to communicate with people around the world, and to broaden my horizons. My love for learning did not get started until later on in elementary school, when I found books that spoke to and engaged me. With my students, I strive to focus on finding material that matters to them, so that the work of laying a strong foundation of phonics, of building fluency and of expanding working memory comes as less of a burden and more of a joy.

English

ACT English,

ACT English

As a teacher, I utilize cross curricular teaching to bring reading, writing, and math to bear when teaching my subject area. Over the course of teaching hundreds of students, I have edited, corrected, and marked thousands of papers, ensuring their conformation with formal writing conventions. The English portion of the ACT utilizes a fixed set of possible errors, and by ingraining those errors into your memory, you will be best equipped to pick out the mistakes presented to you and select the correct answer.
ACT Reading,

ACT Reading

As a teacher, I utilize cross curricular teaching to bring reading, writing, and math to bear when teaching my subject area. Over the course of teaching hundreds of students, I have conveyed how to use reading skills like chunking, context clues, and visualizing to help students improve their comprehension and reduce their reading time. By assessing a student's current level, filling in missing components their education may have missed, and integrating test taking skills, I can allow a pupil to perform up to their potential on this test.
English,

English

English is used to write contracts and novels, reports and poems. No matter what mode of life you plan on leading, English will be useful, and with work, even beautiful. By understanding what others have written and said, and expressing yourself through voice and pen (and keyboard, and tablet, etc.), you open so many doors for your own future. As a scholar and scientist, my papers have to be clear and grammatically correct. As a teacher and educator, I set a good example for my students by communicating with them effectively and clearly. I edit their work not just for science content but also for grammar, composition structure, and vocabulary. I teach them to read scientifically by challenging them with engaging articles of high interest subjects. Personally, I enjoy reading for its own sake, and continue to broaden my horizons whenever possible. I hope to help you improve whatever you need, but if I can just instill a love of reading in you, I am sure the rest will follow on its own.

History

American History,

American History

Having earned a history minor in college, I feel qualified to teach students about this important subject. Also, my personal passion for the subject has led me to independently expand my knowledge. History is more than a collection of facts and figures, dates and names, places and people. History is really about a story, about cause and effect. The greatest history teacher I ever had never let anyone get away with a simple statement of fact. "So what?" was his constant reply. By identifying the significance of different events, we can place them in the story of the world, and can learn lessons for our own future. And while our own nation's history is rather short compared to the history of other countries, it is vital to our understanding of the way the world is today, and how it will be tomorrow.
European History,

European History

As a high school student, I got a 5 on my AP European History Test, and I carried my love of history forward into college to earn a History minor along with my Biology major. To this day I remain interested in European History and continue to read publications put out by professional historians and institutions to feed my own curiosity and intellectual development.

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

To the uninitiated, algebra can seem like a horrifying mess of letters while familiar numbers seem to have disappeared. However, with experience, practice, and a few basic concepts this form of math can be done easily and functionally in everyday life, as well as at school. I have used algebra in classrooms to solve physics and chemistry questions, in gardens to determine watering requirements, on construction sites to mix cement. It is deeply satisfying as well as practical to work smarter rather than harder, to figure out the problems that lie before you and truly understand the situation.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

As an Algebra II teacher, I see students of all levels and abilities grow and expand their capabilities in my subject area. With a background in science, I connect math to useful applications present in students' lives. As a long time SAT tutor, I have lots of experience helping students one on one be their best as they rise to the challenge.
Biology,

Biology

Biology has been my primary passion from a young age. I focused all of my electives on it in high school, earned a BS in Marine Biology, and teach it to this day. My current teaching position requires that I be familiar with all the different aspects of the subject, while also pushing me to find new ways of exploring the subject in engaging, intuitive ways. Biology is one of the best sciences to study because it is informed by so many other branches, while providing critical support for our way of life in the modern age. It is vital that everyone have a basic grasp of biology for their own sake, and the world's.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

As a high school science teacher, I have taught it all, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and even Forensics. While biology was my major as an undergrad, the chemistry of life and the environment still played a strong role in my studies. With General Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Organic Chemistry under my belt, I have served as a qualified teacher and tutor in the field.

Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry, the measuring of the Earth, was elevated to religious status by the early Greek mathematicians. This should come as no surprise, for it is a powerful and beautiful subject all its own, and integrates beautifully with the other branches of mathematics. Its logic is airtight; the conclusions, eternal. The practical use of geometry is what brings it to the forefront for everyone else. From carpenters and cabinetmakers to architects and engineers, the necessity of describing shapes should enable all of us to grapple with the subject, and its applications. With practical, real world examples and challenging, thought provoking sessions, I will be able to introduce my students to this subject in a variety of ways. With lessons that access every type of intelligence, I empower every student to master the fundamentals of the subject by fostering a deeper understanding how and why the proofs of the ancients work and are meaningful to this day..

As a math tutor for the SATs, an Algebra I and II co teacher at the high school level, and a physical science teacher, I teach math in all the ways it is expressed to students today. While earning my undergraduate degree in Marine Biology, I soon discovered that all of the really interesting and important parts of my studies relied on ecology in some way. As a result, I have furthered my study of the subject outside of the classroom and the traditional education setting. By studying the flow of energy and matter, we can learn the answer to the vital question, "So what?" So what if we wipe out all mosquitoes? So what if animals are going extinct at a rate not seen since the dinosaurs were struck by an asteroid? So what if the temperature changes by a few degrees? Ecology can help us see the world in all of its beautiful complexity, and help us mitigate or even reverse the impacts to come.
