Frank the Math Tutor... who knows some Spanish
If you are having trouble in a high school or college level math class, or are preparing to take the SATs, then look no further. I am a 2001 graduate of Penn State's Math Education department. I have a flexible schedule with availability during the day, night, or weekends. My specialty is pre-algebra through calculus. I prefer 90 minute sessions, as an hour is just too short and two hours can go too long. We can meet at your house, a library, diner, or any of the Barnes & Nobles. UPDATE:...

I prefer 90 minute sessions, as an hour is just too short and two hours can go too long. We can meet at your house, a library, diner, or any of the Barnes & Nobles. UPDATE: During the pandemic, I have become more accomplished with online tutoring. I am always available to help out that way if we're too far apart, or you prefer that method.
I can provide references. During the school year, I will sub at middle and high schools.
I got back into tutoring 15 years ago purely by accident. I went to pick up my order of Chinese food at a local restaurant and saw a sign in the window requesting a math tutor for the owners' son. Over the next two years I'd meet with him many times a week. It made me realize how fun and rewarding tutoring can be. It's like I'm getting paid to solve crossword puzzles, as that's how math problems feel for me.
I have experience with every type of student imaginable. Some of those I have tutored include students from middle school all the way up to college, and range in age from 12 to 60. When I was younger, I even tutored one of my older sisters AND my father in algebra, as neither reached that level in high school.
One of the things I emphasize is learning how to do basic math without the use of calculators. Calculators are great for some problems, like say 23.98342 x .00498, or for graphing multiple equations or data analysis in statistics. They were not designed for everything, though. For instance every student should be able to compute 12 x 40 by hand. I have found that most students today rely on calculators to do the most basic of tasks, which sadly has robbed them of being able to complete problems that they learned in elementary school. Knowledgeable and honest
We scheduled a 90 minute session but Frank was honest enough to shorten the session since he felt that my daughter understood the materials pretty fast on her own. He explained the material clearly and easy to understand.Maricor, 1 lesson with Frank

Frank is an excellent tutor. He helped me through my first assignment in my College Calculus class. Wyzant gave us the opportunity to use both screen sharing and audio and visual aid to help with the session. Frank also utilized the white board feature which was very helpful with showing the work and helping me follow along with his teaching.Michael, 17 lessons with Frank
very helpful in breaking problems down. He's been very helpful in scheduling with my son. We only needed him for a few weeks to finish up trig class and he's stepped in nicely after our other tutor passed away.Stacy, 4 lessons with Frank
Knowledgeable and methodical
Frank was able to not only explain steps in Algebra 1 but give my son notes to look over on his own and review. His ability to teach from a common sense standpoint helped my son in a way his teachers at school could not.Tina, 1 lesson with Frank
Frank is a great tutor and will be called for tutoring prior to every test I have. He is knowledgeable, clearly understood, and helped me to gain a lot of understanding in just one session. I will continue to call on Frank for additional help in my Honors Calculus class.Bob, 3 lessons with Frank
