Hello parents, guardians and students! My name is Kate and I am currently a graduate student at Pennsylvania State University pursuing a master's degree in special education. Before starting at Penn State, I graduated from Bucknell University with B.S. in early childhood education and certifications in early childhood education (PreK-4) and teaching English as a second language (K-12). While there, I student taught in a 3rd grade classroom. From these two educational opportunities, I have gained valuable knowledge and experience teaching in general and special education throughout the school year and over the summer. Most recently, I taught in a virtual ESY program for students in a life skills support classroom. Currently, I am student teaching in an elementary autistic support classroom and substituting in elementary-aged classrooms. I have a caring, outgoing personality, love problem-solving and helping others succeed.

My tutoring sessions are centered around meaningful learning tasks, high success levels and dedicated time on task. Working with students one-on-one or in a small group enables me to better meet students' personal and learning needs, in addition to building a positive relationship. I praise students for working hard, taking risks and maintaining a positive mindset. Learning is collaborative in nature, so I love developing strategies with parents and consulting with research-based practices in order to build the best lessons. When teaching or tutoring, the most rewarding aspect is when a student has an "a-ha! moment", which allows them to become a confident, inquisitive learner. Please feel free to reach out if you have further questions or are interested in working together.

Throughout all my technical educational training and my practical experiences, I have relied on the Common Core State Standards to guide and sequence my instruction. I am most familiar with the third grade state standards, but I also have experience lesson planning in kindergarten through fourth grade. While there are many standards that need to be met and exceeded, I have spent copious amounts of time grooming through a plethora of standards to find the most important ones for my students' current performance and their future success.

Over the past 4 years at Bucknell University, I received formal teaching training grounded in practicum and theory in both early childhood education (PreK-4) and teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL), as well as Pennsylvania certifications in each area. I have a variety of experiences in multiple subjects, ranging from formal student teaching in an inclusive 3rd grade classroom to an ESL internship with the district's ESL teacher. Additionally, I am a daily substitute in my local school district, where I primarily teach in elementary and special education settings. Currently, I am pursuing as Master's in special education at The Pennsylvania State University, where I am receiving formal education training and practicum experience from influential professors and researchers in the special education field.

Kate was fantastic, fun and engaging!

Kate was able to make math fun as math could be for our struggling 3rd grader. As soon as her lesson was over, my daughter said she was her favorite tutor.

Kind and knowledge tutor

Katherine did a wonderful job working with my 5th grader. He was very nervous trying something new and she immediately put him at ease, was very encouraging and did a great job teaching the topics they were working on.

Excellent Tutor! Our daughter enjoys e-learning now

E-learning during school closures was generating a lot of stress for our daughter and our family. Katherine stepped in and our 6 hour daily ordeals are now 2.5 hours of happy learning. We could not be more happy with how things have worked out, our daughter is happy and learning, and Katherine is really great at getting through the lessons with her and making things fun.
