I am a highly qualified, capable and creative educator, utilizing a variety of teaching strategies to motivate students. Students learn best when they understand a purpose and connection to their learning and when they are having fun. Depending on the individual, I use strategies that will work for that student; visual, auditory, demonstration/hands-on, and mnemonics. I am a flexible and caring professional using my teaching and life knowledge to meet the diverse needs of students. I understand that quality education is a partnership between home and school. Prior to becoming a certified teacher, I worked in the human service field with developmentally delayed adults and victims of domestic violence.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified in elementary education (K-6) with a teaching certificate in PA. I have worked as an aide, teacher, and substitute teacher in elementary for 10 years. In addition, for the passed three years, I have worked in the middle school as an aide with 5th and 6th grade students. I have overview certification in Wilson Reading Program at the elementary level, as well as experience in Saxon Math program and Singapore Math at the elementary level. I have worked with special education students in K-6 for 12 years which has increased my skills in learning strategies and differentiation.
I have used several math programs at the elementary level that are engaging and effective. In addition, as a special educator, I have used materials and strategies that work for all kinds of learners.
Having certifications in elementary and special education, I have been exposed to many situations where students are in need of organization, time management, and study skills. I have assisted students one-on-one in organizing their binder, which sets the stage for managing their time and learning strategies for studying, like note-taking, memorization, and chunking information. It is important to be aware of what will work for each student based on his/her particular needs. Personally, I am highly organized and, to me, helping students develop study skills is just an extension of that trait.
