Hi Everybody,

My name is Mary, and I am the right tutor for you!

I have been teaching for seven years now. I earned my undergraduate degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Bloomsburg State College. I earned my Business Education teacher certification from Delaware Valley College. I recently graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Master's degree of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and I have been working for four years as a teacher of Business Education in the Reading School District. Along with teaching I have also done some homebound instruction for the Reading School District. As part of my work, I tutor students in all subjects that students may be enrolled in such as; Math (pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and general Math), Language Arts (including English, reading, vocabulary and writing), Microsoft Office 2007 application software, and some test prep (GED,SAT).

Besides tutoring, I have experience with students of all ages, including extensive experience with individuals who have special needs. In general, I favor a "hands-on" approach to teaching that involves a lot of interaction between the tutor and student, and concrete experiences in addition to worksheets. However, my specific methods vary according to the subject being taught and the learning style of the student.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Homeschool

Algebra 1,

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 The main goal of this course is to provide students with a thorough and extensive study of linear and quadratic functions and graphing on the x,y-coordinate system. By the end of this course, students will have all the knowledge necessary to solve and graph equations and inequalities. They will also be able to apply this knowledge to other areas of math, such as word problems, ratios and proportions.
Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

Algebra II: Algebra 2 is a course designed to build on algebraic and geometric concepts. It develops advanced algebra skills such as systems of equations, advanced polynomials, imaginary and complex numbers, quadratics, and concepts and includes the study of trigonometric functions. It also introduces matrices and their properties. The content of this course are important for students’ success on both the SAT and college mathematics entrance exams. Students who successful complete Algebra II should take Pre-Calculus next.
Geometry,

Geometry

Geometry is designed to emphasize the study of the properties and applications of common geometric figures in two and three dimensions. It includes the study of transformations and right triangle trigonometry. Inductive and deductive thinking skills are used in problem solving situations, and applications to the real world are stressed. It also emphasizes writing proofs to solve (prove) properties of geometric figures.
Precalculus,

Precalculus

Precalculus is a math course that is along the same lines as advanced secondary school algebra. Precalculus includes math topics between algebra and trigonometry. Precalculus may also include small amounts of calculus concepts, algebraic topics that might not have been given attention to in earlier algebra courses. Precalcusus may include the opportunity to spend more time on conic sections, vectors, and other topics needed for calculus.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I work with students to help them prepare to earn the best exam results from taking the SAT Math Test. The results on the SAT Math Test is a tool designed to assess one's academic readiness for college. The SAT Math exam scores are used by many colleges for admission. The scores determine course placement, and are used to advise students about course of study selection. Being prepared for the exam is crucial for student success and institutional choices.

Sewing

I have been sewing since I was in 7th grade and I am now 52 years old. I have made items from pillow case, apron, blankets, dresses, shirts, jackets and pants. I know I can teach someone else to sew. I know how to lay out and cut out a pattern. Pick out the correct fabric to go with the item someone wants to make.

Flexible and Made Connections

Mary gave me realistic accounting tools that I can utilize in my college courses. She was realistic in her teaching and utilized timely software programs in order to make connections to the material. We worked with programs that today's accounting firms are utilizing, which will hopefully give me an added advantage. She has a very flexible schedule as well. I highly recommend her as an accounting tutor.
