I spent three years teaching ESL in Japan after completing my undergraduate studies. Since then, I have been working in information technology, teaching Sunday School to elementary age students, earning my Masters degree in Education (specialized in special education), tutoring locally as opportunities arise, and most recently teaching computer science and information systems at Cairn University. I have a passion for helping kids overcome their challenges, and helping them build confidence in their own abilities. For adults seeking to improve their professional skills, I take your existing skills and experiences, and help you to transfer them to something new. While I cover many areas, I specialize in SQL, PHP, networking essentials, Drupal, and cybersecurity.

I have been an IT Professional in the apparel industry for over 20 years. Professionally, I have been in charge of systems design and maintenance, developing all code needed to extend our packaged ERP and related systems. When Cairn announced their intent in 2017 to offer a new Computer Science major, I jumped at the chance to take the lead on developing and leading this program. We have seen successful and consistent growth in both the program, and those students who have stepped up to the challenge. My goal is to see every computer science major succeed, but it takes hard work and practice. I will stand by you every step of the way.

I have been programming computers since I was 9 years old, and have excelled in a career providing computer support, setting up servers, writing custom applications, and designing the corporate network for over 15 years. My goal is to help people make the best use of technology and help them avoid some of the problems that lead to costly repairs.
Networking (Computer),

Networking (Computer)

I have been IT Director for a clothing company for many years. My daily job responsibilities include analyzing networking issues related to Cisco and Brocade hardware, cabling problems, and performance issues. I regularly use software tools provided by Praessler, Wireshark, Barracuda, and Cisco to determine the cause of issues. I have programmed libraries using Berkley sockets and have a thorough knowledge of IPv4 IETF protocols.
PHP,

PHP

I have been programming with PHP since 2004. I have built several websites using Drupal and Ubercart, including the coding of themes and modules to support them. I have taught PHP and MySQL at Cairn University, and at Bucks County Community College. I am one of only a handful of PHP programmers who is Zend certified in the state of Pennsylvania.

I have been programming with PHP since 2004. I have built several websites using Drupal and Ubercart, including the coding of themes and modules to support them. I have taught a PHP and MySQL web design course at the local community college for 4 semesters before other commitments forced me to lay the position aside. In addition, I enjoy coding HTML and Javascript by hand, including the use of JQuery.

Elementary (K-6th)

One of the reasons elementary students struggle with school is that teachers forget to tailor the subject to the interests of the students. I have a Master's Degree in Education, concentrating in elementary education and special needs. I do not currently teach in public school (and consequently do not have public certification) frankly because I make better money in the business world and do not have the luxury of downgrading at the moment. I have successfully tutored elementary students of all grades (pre-K through 6) in English as a foreign language, math, reading, and writing. I aim to make lessons interesting and fun, sometimes to the point that students do not realize they are learning. You want your child to do better in school, but perhaps they've lost their motivation. I can help, and have the skill and experience to make the time enjoyable and productive.

I accepted Jesus the Christ as my Savior in 1980, and have spent every year since studying the Bible and learning more about who He is and what He's done. I have taught children's lessons and led Bible studies for adults consistently over the years. I believe the Bible says what it means and means what it says. If I don't understand it in English, I use various tools to help me decipher the original language and context. I would love to train you to do the same.

Results from Tutoring

I was waiting until all of the test results were in to give Michael a final review. Michael tutored our daughter for about 2 1/2 months because she was seriously behind in math. Now that all of the results are in, I wanted to give a follow-up. Her SAT math score jumped a lot. She went from the 23rd percentile to the 45th percentile and after his tutoring, she was able to retake the math portion of the PSSA exam and her scores went from Basic to Proficient (I don't have the exact scores yet but she did indeed pass). So, Michael, thank you for all of your hard work. I figured nothing shows the quality of your work better than results and we have the results to prove it was definitely worth the time.
