I'm Razi! I am graduating with a BA from Harvard University in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (and now fluently speak Hebrew, Arabic and English!). At Harvard one of my most meaningful experiences was working for the Harvard Learning Lab, a company within Harvard that hires students to read and simulate new and cutting edge assignments and projects that professors wanted to assign their classes. Besides for learning lots of new things, the Learning Lab helped me understand the intricacies of cutting-edge education, and what makes a curriculum succeed or fail.

Ever since giving my first chess lesson when I was 11 years old (certainly the most exciting $2 I have ever made in my life) I have continued tutoring in almost every imaginable capacity, from ACT, to college essays, from Middle School English to High School Math, from the suburbs to the inner city, from lifelong Americans to recent refugees. Of all the types of tutoring I enjoy, I particularly love helping High Schoolers with their college applications. The entire process can often seem quite daunting, and especially, the essay, where one is required to condense the most important part of him or herself into a few hundred words. When I was published in the most recent edition of "50 Successful Harvard Application Essays" I realized how influential my essay must have been on my admission, and hope to share what helped me create a powerful essay with anyone I can teach.

The way I succeeded on the ACT, was my taking as many practice tests I could and then going over all the questions I got wrong with a tutor. The Math and English sections are perhaps the easiest ones to improve at, and the best sections for implementing this specific technique. After quickly going through important math concepts, every practice test and its subsequent analysis will always allow the student to feel more confident the next time.

Science was the section that most differentiates the ACT from the SAT (back when I took it) and also the section I consistently did t

I have lived in Israel for more than three years. When I was younger I spoke Hebrew at home, and studied Hebrew intensively from pre-school to college. At Harvard, I started and organized Harvard University's first "Hebrew Table" where I would during dinner and talk to any students interested in practicing their Hebrew. I have also tutored and taught Hebrew to Elementary School, Middle School, and High School students for 8+ years!

I grew up playing chess. My dad first taught me when I was 4, and when I was 7, I was already beating him. I have taught chess in numerous different settings, from private tutoring, to running chess camps at my house, to volunteering to teach chess to at-risk middle schoolers. I'm rated 1900+ on LiChess and have extensive knowledge of opening, middle game, and end game theory. Most importantly perhaps, my lessons are fun and exciting, and keep students of all ages engaged and interested!

I really enjoyed today’s lesson! I got a better idea on what to improve and a better idea of what colleges are looking for in my essays. I will continue to work hard and do whatever it takes to get the best possible papers in and impress colleges!

Brilliant and impressive tutor!

Razi is brilliant at what he does. He was well prepared and knew exactly how to best conduct the tutoring session. He was very fast to point out what needs to be done and how to make a compelling personal statement. I can't wait for our next session to discuss my first draft.

Very charismatic and understanding

Applying to multiple colleges through several applications, I had a plethora of short answers and supplemental essays to write. Razi patiently helped me brainstorm and also used his experience to guide me in the writing process. Would definitely recommend if you want to break the limits of your writing capabilities!

Always prepared and adaptable

Razi has been working with my middle school aged son and has proven to be effective while also being engaging and adaptable. He is very organized and clearly takes time to prepare the lessons. Razi welcomes feedback and adjusts accordingly which is critical in working with a variety of students. Both my son and I highly recommend working with Razi!

Excellent Tutor

I hired Razi to help my son with his college essay. My son has a tough time with writing, and the first tutor that we hired for him gave up, telling us that he is unable to pull anything out of our son, and basically fired us a client. So then I gave Razi a shot, and he really came through. He is incredibly empathetic and patient, and combined with a very sharp mind, has been able to get my son to put pen to paper. He is in the final stages of polishing his essay, and I am really impressed with how good it is. I'm going to ask Razi about what other subjects he tutors, because he has a gift for it.
