I am a middle school English teacher with a Master's degree in Elementary Education and an undergraduate degree in English. I have been teaching full time for six years, but have been teaching from Pre-K all the way through college on and off for the past 10. Although English (reading and writing) are my passions, I love to teach math and study skills as well. I have a great rapport with my students, and we have a great time learning to think "outside the box" so that everyone can achieve their educational goals while staying true to their own learning style.

I am willing to charge a reduced fee for a group of 2-4 students.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a master's in elementary education and a K-6 PA certification which enables me to teach all subjects in the K-6 general education curriculum. My focus is the core standards which are adopted by many of the area public schools.
I have a Bachelor's of Arts in English from the University of Delaware with a concentration in Business and Technical Writing. In addition, I hold a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and am certified in the State of PA.
I have been teaching Language Arts for 6 years at a private school, and have a deep understanding of the Pennsylvania Standards and curriculum.
I have a strong understanding of literature and literary elements, and am able to assist students with deepening their understanding of both short stories and novels. In addition, I have extensive grammar knowledge, and a thorough knowledge of effective writing strategies for students ranging from K-12.
I am certified in PA as a K-6 teacher which includes the area of phonics as a segment of reading and writing. Specifically, I am prepared to use letter and sound recognition, blends and word endings to create a focus for curriculum. I use a variety of traditional methods (books/workbooks) but I also use manipulatives and technology to help support the overall exposure to the phonics theory. I have a master's degree in elementary education and have taught most grades including middle school.
I teach middle school English which requies that 25% of the grading scale be dedicated to oral speaking and listening. As a result, I have a multitude of public speaking lessons, and some creative ways to have students become more comfortable with speaking in small and large groups. Further, I taught a public speaking class at Wilmington College and received positive feedback regarding the class structure and assessment process.
Over the past ten years, I have worked with numerous students in the area of study skills, and have been able to effectively offer concrete steps to improving this skill. Along with preparing for tests, I use study skills as an opportunity to teach good organizational habits which help promote good study habits as well as the timely completion of written tasks. I have tutored students in this area for over five years, and I work daily as a Middle School teacher to offer similar strategies to my own students.
