I am excited at this opportunity to help you grow your love of science! It can be a challenging subject, but understanding the fundamentals of it can increase your future learning. I can help you with everything from basic concepts to more specific theories & principles. I went to undergrad & grad school in West Virginia. I was fortunate enough to gain a wide variety of environmental jobs in the state. I relocated to PA & worked extensively in renewable energy. Now, I am taking grad classes to earn a master's in secondary science education. I actively write online environmental sustainability articles & continue to stay aware of new scientific & environmental discoveries. Together, I am confident I can help your child succeed & achieve their science goals enthusiastically!
Education has been a part of my life since I was small. Being a student again allows me to work with others in my major to help with assignments and understanding of the class topics. Previously, I worked with elementary age students with my previous job to educate them of environmental issues, biology, and natural sciences. I work regularly with students outside of the classroom of various ages (ages 6+) by coaching swim team, teaching swim lessons, and serve as a mentor to them. My approach to students & children in general when it comes to tutoring and mentoring is to listen to them, find out what they see as most challenging, identify how we can work together to overcome the difficulty, develop strategies on how we can succeed together, and encourage them to work independently by gaining confidence in their prior knowledge. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a BS in Biology, MS Environmental Science.
My educational background includes a BS in Biology; an MS in Environmental Science; and an MS in education, with a focus on science. Experience I have with Botany includes field work, laboratory experimentation, and working professionally in the field of agriculture. Through teaching study skills, how to relate and identify plant species, and the importance of plants to the environment, I can help students gain an understanding of Botany. I can help students learn the organization of plants based on similarities; understand plant, organism, fungi, and algae's interaction with the environment; and, learn ways to protect and preserve plant species in an ever-changing environment.
