“And, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.” - Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

I am an undergrad graduate from College of Arts and Sciences at New York University. I majored in Mathematics and minored in Web Programming and Applications. At the age of 15, I started to help at my father’s church by working as a Sunday School Teacher. Through that experience, I learned that I have great patience when teaching, and that I enjoy making enjoyable and interactive lessons for my students. Throughout next 7 years, I expanded what I started out as just Bible lessons to middle school and high school math lessons and Korean lessons as well. Wanting to further build upon my talents, I participated in STARS Tutoring program in high school, where I thought AP Calculus and AP Micro and Macro Econ to students of my age. Last summer, I also had the privilege of working with Let’s Get Ready, a program at Temple University designed to prepare students from low-income households for SAT testing and college applications. As a College Access Coach, I taught SAT math to a group of 10 students and aided them to improve their score by an average of 20%. By teaching passionately, I want to show students that learning is not limited by their background or intelligence but is rather expanded through inquisitive mind and inspiration.

I strongly believe in connecting with individual students to understand their strengths and weaknesses. Whenever I pause my stopwatch for the student to take a break, I tend to ask the students their goals, aspirations, and interests, all of which I try to incorporate into my lessons to boost the morale and interactivity when I resume the timer. When I teach, I make sure that the students are able to demonstrate that they understand the concepts by providing various questions that utilize similar techniques. Once they show mastery in understanding the concepts, I encourage my students to solve problems as efficiently as possible by revealing various time-saving tips and tricks. I believe that listening is a key part of tutoring, and I ensure that the tutoring sessions revolve around student's specific questions.

Since I graduated from New York University with Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, a great majority of the mathematical concepts are still very fresh in my head. Not only that, but I have tutored mathematics for over 7 years, so I have accumulated many know-hows to teach each concept in a relatively-easy-to-understand manner. As someone who have scored better than 95% average percentile and have kept up with the SAT updates over the years, I also am knowledgeable in the "pitfall" questions that SAT likes to give students and the tips to solve questions well within time.

As a fluent speaker of Korean, I have gave alphabet and grammar lessons to students of different ages back when I taught as a Sunday School Teacher. Looking into the origins of the alphabets, I have found the ways that the teachers back in the day used to teach to the civilians and use similar techniques to help students understand the overall language quickly (after all, Korean alphabet was created so that smart people can learn in a day, and even the most illiterate people can learn in three days). I have many experiences translating between English and Korean, and am confident that I can help people learn this wonderful language.

I like to keep the lessons creative and flexible, so I am always ready for any feedback from parents and students. I try my best to keep in touch with my clients, so you can expect easy and fast responses. Please feel free to contact me to ask any questions or to schedule a lesson!
