Through my life experiences, I've learned, that in order to be truly successful, doing the bare minimum is never enough. I love and strive to bring the best out of each student I work with, and will approach every child with a plan specialized for such.
I have been a K-12 substitute teacher since graduating, while working several other jobs and coaching many sports. I current coach wrestling, as it has been one of my dearest passions for quite some time. Through the sport of wrestling, I have learned how to motivate children in many different ways, because I truly believe that no child can be motivated the same way as the next.
Throughout my life, I have had several teachers, professors and coaches have profound impacts on my life. I hope that through my career choice, I will have the opportunity to affect the lives of our youth in the same way. That being said, I hold my students and myself to an extremely high standard. Effort is key. I will work with any student who is willing to put in the effort to succeed, but I have no room for those who will simply not do their work.
While I do have a busy schedule, I am extremely flexible and am willing to work with students at any time I am available. I do have a 12 hour cancellation requirement but do accept rescheduling. The first free session for new students will be a short consultation, to get an idea of where the student is at academically and to begin to develop a plan of attack. This way, I can be prepared to start getting our student on track right away during our first tutoring session.
As a writing major at the Univ. of Pitt., my schedule was focused heavily on writing and maintaining a strong background in grammar.
I have been playing guitar and bass since the age of 12. I will never say I am a master of the instrument because I am always learning, but I love to help students get started and to improve their technique
As a successful high school and college wrestler, I now coach at Altoona Area High School.
I look forward to meeting new students and doing everything I can to help you not only become better in the classroom but also become better people. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
