In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Following graduation from Penn State, I began working at an Early Intervention Preschool that housed students that were either regular education or students with Individualized Education Plans. We also were the only preschool in our district to have two classrooms dedicated entirely to students on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. I worked in both of these classrooms in either one-on-one situations or in group settings as per their IEP's goals.
I received my undergraduate Bachelor's degree from The Pennsylvania State University in Elementary Education. I went on to achieve my Master's of Special Education therefore certifying me in N-12.
For three summers, I taught at Penn State to high school students the art of graphic design. We used basic HTML to build beginner webpages with additional lessons on editing photos, safe browsing and blogging.
I took and passed my Reading, Writing, Math, Curriculum & Instruction and Content Knowledge while achieving my undergraduate degree at Penn State University. Also, after finishing my Master's in Special Education, I took and passed the Praxis for it.
I had an A average in all of my communications courses during my time at Penn State. Also, as a elementary school student teacher, it was my duty to often video tape and broadcast a variety of lessons. During my work out of college, I became a Developmental Support Teacher for an early intervention preschool. It was my duty to meet with students and their families in order to test, assess, devise and then implement Individualized Education Plans for students. The IEP meeting process required me to be communicable with various demographics of people in a variety of situations.
I am dual certified in elementary/special education with a Master's in special education. For three and a half years, I worked in an Early Intervention school where it was my job to assess students for disabilities and then develop and implement Individualized Education Plans if necessary. Our school also emphasized working with students on the Autism Spectrum.
I graduated with distinction from Penn State University and achieved my Master's degrees with a 3.8+ GPA while working a full-time job. Moreover, I worked in after school programs to help struggling students work on their academic/study skills. Also, during my undergraduate work, I volunteered in a program that worked with single mothers hoping to achieve their GEDs.
