“**Excellent tutor**”

I've (mostly!) loved learning math for a long time, from when I was very young and when it was not cool!

After completing most of the math courses available in high school here in Altoona, I earned a bachelor's degree in Math and Read more

Kathleen is an excellent tutor. She helped me get through Math 21 my freshman year and Math 110 my sophomore year at Penn State Altoona. I started out poorly in my Math 21 class after the first exam in which I got a 62 on. I knew I needed a tutor ASAP and luckily I founded Kathleen to help me on the next two exams in which I earned an 87 and 85 on. Finding and scheduling times that worked both for me and for her was not an issue. She was very patient when I wasn't understanding a problem right away and she was able to work through the problem step by step until I fully understood it. Kathleen was able to give me different problems from her head for me to practice preventing me from doing the same problems over and over again from the textbook in which I would end up memorizing. Scheduling sessions with Kathleen forced me keep up with my math work and forced me to practice problems which ultimately helped me earn the good grades. She was very easy to get in touch with whether it was through email or text messaging. I highly recommend contacting Kathleen and setting up tutor sessions if you are struggling in a math course. You will not regret it!

Kathleen W. was the first tutor I have ever gone to for help and overall I had a good experience. She was very helpful and willing to assist me when I got something wrong.

My daughter said just one day with Kathleen made a big difference in her understanding Algebra 2, She felt more comfortable and was able to identify what she was doing wrong. Thanks Kathleen I have a much happier college student

We really love having Kathleen in our home. She is great with our son and he is learning. She is accommodating and flexible. She knows different ways to help and is always very well prepared. We look forward to working with her for as long as it takes to get our son to where he needs to be.

Kathleen has been a super positive influence on our Son taking Calculus (Math 110 at PSU). She has been very flexible to his needs and has always been there when needed. Kathleen is an awesome tutor and we highly recommend her for all Math needs!

Kathleen was professional and my son understood her explanations. We would recommend Kathleen. She is tutoring my son in Geometry and Algebra.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I've logged hundreds of hours helping students learn Algebra I and II. I believe in learning for understanding, and in quick mini-lessons to get up to speed in previous topics that may have been forgotten, like fractions. I can also help with finding the exact section of books or on the web that can help with more examples or for a quick reference in particular topics.

Algebra 2 continues the topics from Algebra 1, but sometimes it can present its own unique challenges, especially since students have usually had a summer break in between the two courses, if not more time. We can work together on topics that need reviewed from Algebra 1, and also tackle more challenging topics presented in Algebra 2 and beyond.

I've helped students learn high school Calculus (including AP), Calculus I and Calculus II as a professional tutor on a daily basis, for nearly 5 years. I'm familiar with different methods of presenting calculus concepts and mistakes that students commonly make, and can quickly help students get up to speed in the algebra and trig concepts that are necessary at this higher level. There were definitely times in my learning process where I felt like throwing the Calc book at the wall, but I dug in and tried different approaches until I found a way into it, and I try to bring the perseverance I've learned into my tutoring!

I've helped students learn geometry from many different levels, from basic understanding for prealgebra classes, to proofs and right triangle properties, to advanced level geometry dealing with transformations and three-dimensional objects.
